I wired up a pair of new-to-me FD3-5a's in my conventional 35" 5-string single-cut last night. ABZ-style switching, with a series/parallel switch on the neck p/u.
What a beautifully-voiced pickup set! I've been an EMG fanatic for over twenty years, but I don't think I'll be going back. No more batteries for me...
I was just looking for a way to kill some time while I wait for my Honey Amberburst ABZ 5, but this has cranked the anticipation up a notch!

Excuse me while I count my blessings - I'm fortunate to have three Dingwalls in my playing rotation and enjoy each one in turn. 
I was grooving the Colaburst SJ5 in series with a bit of bass rolled off this morning and being amazed all over again at its authoritative thunder. No brag, just fact - this is a tone monster that Sheldon built.

You're not bragging. Just speaking the truth. I remain absolutely amazed at my SJ 5 and it's just a passive (standard) . The honeymoon should be long over but the thing still gives me chicken skin.
Effortless to play. Notes jump off the fret board without having to give the bass a what-for and a how-come. Tone is just stellar.
I was in the studio last Saturday for a cover band demo. Had to use the NAV 63 P for much of it because that is what works for the music. (and yes, I found myself pining for my upcoming Super P5 the whole time.) Anyway, move to the next song and grab the fiver. And I need to lay in to it just hair to give me some grind so I don't make it sound like Lawrence Welk. The engineer stopped us in the middle of a pre-take warm-up and said, "What are you playing? That thing sounds incredible in the mix! You need to lock that P in the closet and forget about it. Play that on EVERYTHING !"
The weirdest thing for me is that it shines in so many genres of music. I recently found out that this thing just kills it in Contemporary Christian music as well and I never saw that coming. 4 guitar players? No problem !
Your engineer's proclamation is priceless.
I don't know why, but I was mistakenly thinking that yours was active. Both modes rock on mine - two nice flavors. I typically praise in active mode and roll the bass just a bit off of the detent. It's a must for the Stormy p/j in series, it's too huge without a little bass-cut. I wish we had one guitar player, but I do agree that Dingwall basses work great in Contemporary Christian music!

The engineer was awesome. He knew when to give us a hug and when to kick us in the butt.
Best line of the day was " that sounded killer if you're in the 7th grade playing in your garage. Maybe we should do it again?"
He kept everyone in stitches throughout the day.
I leave the Ding settings alone, other than backing off the tone a hair depending on what were playing. Second click from full counter clockwise. Probably series?
In spite of playing through the big fat Faitals, bottom is huge without ever being overbearing.
I was originally worried about it not being active. Once I heard it, that went out the window. The pre running near flat tells me that I'm getting everything that I need out of it, and then some !
Whenever I see someone selling their SJ, I can't help but shake my head and think, "Have they fallen down and bumped their head?"
My wife has watched me sell most of the basses in the house. I explained that I will be able to handle everything with just two basses once the Super P5 gets here. She then said, "So when the SP gets here, your going to sell the SJ?"
My response ? "You shut your filthy mouth!"

It's encouraging to meet another who tends to overlook actually reading the instructions.
The second click from full CCW renders both pickups in parallel. When you go to the next CW click you should notice a rise in output when you enter series mode. I can't throw rocks in this particular glass house because it took me years of diligent instruction-ignoring before realizing that I needed to turn the bass tone control fully CW to not roll-off the highs when in passive mode. 
Playing in passive mode sounded a whole lot better after my slow brain finally fired the critical synapses!I can't relate to this selling of Super J's.
I could sell them if I had to, but hallelujah, I haven't had to!

After fleeing in terror to pull out the instructions, please note that while you may be able to look down your nose at me in terms of how I count, I did in fact read the instructions. I was counting position 4 as position 1. So yes, I am in position 3, Series.

Is the Dingwall site down? I haven't been able to get in for a couple of weeks now.
And I agree; I love my SuperJ5. The only thing I would prefer is to have 18mm string spacing at the bridge. I can get along with the 19mm, but the 18mm of the other models (minus the SuperP) just feel more comfortable to me.

That thing is just plain sick! That's all i have to say about that.

I've always numbered them in my head the other way around.
I have to admit I sold my Super J, but only after getting a Super PJ.
I've convinced the wife I need 3. 4-string (Super PJ), 5-string (AB2), and a fretless (5-string AB2).
Because my x-ray vision is still on the blink, I am forced to view the pickup selector knob from the top.
Numbers aside, when viewed from that angle, the full CCW position solos the bridge pickup and "the second click from full counter clockwise" (quoting Zoom-man) connects both pickups in parallel. Maybe Zoomies' clocks are running backwards...?
