What string gauges are you using? I just installed the Kalium 49, 65, 86, 114 last night for DGCF and drop C and I wish I went with the 0.118 but no harm no foul.

Just the stock strings, I haven't ordered anything yet since I found out my black beauties fit. I widened the nut a hair using some old strings for it. I went back to eadg and put the detuner on for now. String changes are so fast on these I don't mind switching back and forth
Yeah I actually wanna try the bottom 4 of a DR 40-120 set because of your post about the Black Beauties.

I'm currently running neck FDV, bridge SF2 on an NG2. Both pickups wired parallel. I find the bridge actually useful with a SF2, and I prefer the extra grit from the FDV in the neck. I decided to try the SF2 in the bridge because I wasn't getting the tone I wanted with the higher strings (too bright), and I'm much happier now.
Also, I feel I need to pile on again with a Bass Direct UK story.
This is how my box arrived.
Stuff happens, I get it.
BUT, you can take precautions.
This is the second bass I've gotten from them in a thinner than usual box, with barely any packing material inside, leaving the gig bag to do the heavy lifting.
Fortunately it looks like the only damage is to my gig bag.
I emailed them to express my displeasure about the shipping and the damage to the gig bag. I also mentioned I didn't like how the condition of the last bass I bought was misrepresented in the photos and came with a trash set up.
This was the reply.
I didn't complain about the first one, but now I'm seeing a pattern of not caring.
I wasn't even going to publicly call them out until I got this weak response.

I would expect that from GC but every used bass I've recieved from them has been without a gig bag and extremely well packed. I have been keeping an eye on thier stock of dingwalls for a bit, this is going to make me very hesitant.
I didn't intend to but from them again, but I wanted this bass.

Gotta say that many TB'ers do a better job at packing basses than Bass Direct UK did for you.
Being in the shipping industry myself, I shake my head when, for example, companies stack their freight on cheaply-made pallets and then complain when their freight gets roughed-up because the pallets were obliterated after forklifts touched them along the journey.
It's frustrating when companies cheap-out on protecting the freight -- they would rather roll the dice that only a small percentage of damage claims will result from cost-saving shipping procedures.
Yeah, and in the meantime so much money is spent on flimsy little decorative packaging for shelf/sale/end user packaging.
The last thing I want when I ship something is someone receiving some amazing instrument only to find it shipped in what could be devastatingly poor condition relying on luck to get it safely to its destination.
I’m trying to recall what it was and even if it happened to me but I remember something about a bass just being shipped in a cheap $100 hard case with a bit of cling wrap around it.
NO BOX or any other form of security cover. basically relying on the 3 crappy cases latches.
They certainly haven't lifted their game. I had a Super J from them (I'm in Australia) and the packing was similarly poor. Single thinnish box, little internal packing. Box was munted in a similar fashion to yours. Fortunately the bass was perfectly OK. Luck, I'd say.

Wow. Lots of bad press for them lately. I would've shipped this right back.
Very rough. I had a December delivery I haven't yet received due to multiple errors and a bad neck apparently. Much like the majority of the world right now it seems estimates are not very solid.

As for Bass Direct UK, I bought 5 basses from them already. The last one was my DRoc 5 Standard and it arrived with perfect set up out of the box. ABZ5 that I purchased before DRoc required some truss Rod adjustment but it’s normal for any bass that spent some time in a dealers shop and travelled across the pond after that. They normally do their own setup only for second hand basses they sell and it sounds reasonable cause any brand new high end $4-5k Bass MUST have factory setup prior to shipment to dealers. As for packaging I must admit it’s not the best one but I never had bad luck with any basses they ship to me. Regarding the color on their pictures they always seem a bit darker than the real bass, I agree.
