Has Sheldon ever indicated if Dingwall would ever make a medium or shortscale bass? I could see something like 31.25-29 four string 32-29 five string or 30.25-28 four string 31-28 five string being a really nice option for a Canadian custom shop model.
The Super series of basses are medium scale. They start at 32" instead of the long scale 34". Dingwall basses use the G string to determine the equivalent scale length.
If we're getting technical, Supers are longish to medium scale: 35" B to 32" G. Given that most of the bass is longer than medium scale (35", 34.25", 33.5", 32.75", 32"), I wouldn't call them "medium scale". But, technicalities, naming conventions, and semantics aside...
...Dingwall has never indicated any plans for shorter scale instruments. I don't know of any off the top of my head, but I'm sure there are other companies offering fanned medium and short scale basses. A 32"-30" 4 string would be the ultimate slap bass, and a 30"-28" 4 would be an amazing short scale. I wouldn't have any interest in a low B 5 string smaller than my Super P, but I know some folks dig those shorter scale Bs.

I've never caught the short scale bug; I'd be more interested in a fanned 4 with a 37" scale on the lowest string - a bass made for BEAD tuning.
They could even ship it with standard (EADG) and drop-tune (BEAD) nuts precut.
I forgot about that Ibanez. Possibly because I think that whole series is ugly. I like all different sized basses, they all have a different flavor and inspire me to play different things.
Dingwall made a prototype 37" 4 string AB, there's pictures somewhere in this thread.
Anyone know of stores in California that carry Dingwalls? I’m still dying to try one and see if I should keep reliving this fantasy of a 6 string tuned F#-G.
Kind of off topic, but Dingwall fans can appreciate innovations.

Hopefully you don’t hit a paywall. But if you do, it’s an article about a custom built concert grand piano debuting at Carnegie Hall. The design uses a curved keyboard to improve the ergonomics. It’s also a foot longer than a normal concert grand. A longscale, fanned keyboard!

It used be the Dingwall people explaining, "See, it's like a piano... the low strings are longer than the high strings." Now it'll be the piano people explaining, "See, it's like a Dingwall..."

Im not much of a fretless player in honesty but I went a bit over the top when I spec’d mine. Dingwall wouldn’t do exactly what I wanted on the neck which was have luminlay side dots ON the frets, not in between them and I had an intermittent marker layout I was hoping to get done but that was a no go also…. Regardless they did send mine out the doors as a playable masterpiece. I had Maurillo Minas do some custom work on my neck once I received it and had ordered the neck completely unmarked for that reason.
I had 2 unlined fretless basses for a while and both were amazing. I really loved the sound of my Spector but I mostly play Dingwalls and found it way easier to play and intonate my dingwall over the Spector.
