I just received my SJ4XXX with FDVs and Darkglass, sweet magic indeed. The band loved it (and they are pretty jaded) as did I. IMO, it's a match made in Heaven.

As requested, photos of my new Z3. Ari gold (satin finish), dual density, wenge, Neve preamp, SFII.
I believe you have to go through some authorized dealer for these, and that dealer has to perform the install, iirc. It's not just a simple swap due to the large change in mounting mechanism.
Yes I like the way the Ari gold, wenge, and black hardware complement each other.
This was a wise purchasing decision
This is so clean, so beautiful, so perfect. Perfection without fancy tops or color schemes.
Don’t get me wrong I love exotic tops (my last Z had one), but as you say there’s a kind of understated and elegant beauty in simplicity.

Damn, I'm not close to any dealer around here. Shipping back and forth complicates things. We have an amazing repair shop in New Orleans that I know would do it right. I did just message John Fox, so I'll respond with the info he has.

I love that gold finish. It looks so great with the wenge neck. How would you compare the preamp to the Darkglass? Also, I tend to never use the EQ of my Darkglass on my ABZ, so I'm curious how the Neve affects the tone without starting to boost things.
The Neve is more colored than the DG pre, but in a good way. In active mode it has a very warm, vintage, almost tube like vibe, with lots of saturation and harmonic overtones. This suits me well because the 2 bands I play for play a lot of R&B, old school soul and some country. Plus, it remains very musical and focused even when the bass and treble are fully boosted, where it gets very punchy. It pairs beautifully with the SFII pickups. But you can dial back the colored tone by going passive and making adjustments to the passive tone knob. The DG is generally more transparent, and more mid focused. But I found that things can get too aggressive and less musical if you max out the tone controls on the DG. The DG is probably better suited for metal.
Eventually I will post some sound clips. But I no longer have my DG Z to compare it to.
Which pickups are in that Z @Bassheart365 ? Could you do a quick and dirty recording running through some settings?
SFII pickups. Yes I plan on posting some sound clips eventually.
I just saw your other post, oops! I'm a little worried about it being _that_ colored. The DG pre was already too much in that direction for me, so going even farther isn't something positive for me. I was more hoping it settled somewhere inbetween the Glocks (which I adore) and the DG. Tube like vibes can go either way for me... a lot of times folks end up meaning wooly and with some level of defintion lost, which again is opposite of where I'm wanting to go. Little worried I made a poor choice with my Z order haha. I can swap after the fact of course, but I'd rather not have to.
