Sell it. If it not getting used, there’s no point in keeping it. There’s a two year backlog at the shop, and the looming tariff mess could make custom Dingwalls very dear.

There’s no reason to take a big loss. Price it however you want and see who bites. You are offering up a spectacular custom Super, with no wait time.

I’m all about instant gratification!

Selta’s idea is great angle, see about trading it in. Trade it on a bass that’s ready to go, no waiting.

I’m thinking of doing some downsizing myself. I’ve been playing mostly guitar of late. While I’m loving my $85 Glarry thin line telecaster, I could turn a Dingwall into a really nice PRS silver Sky…..just wave my magic wand!

Meanwhile, I did the Luminlay thing on the AB-1 four string this afternoon. Feel the glow!

A set of Long-Scale dingwall strings costs around 45€ here. I’m guessing you can get them much cheaper in Canada.

Depending on the bass you want to sell, you might be able to sell it here at a slightly higher price. However, you’ll have to factor in shipping/transport costs of the instrument when bringing it from north america to Europe.

As for Mesa gear, it nearly impossible to find here at the moment and what is available is ridiculously expensive

Iberian Peninsula, 61% of my DNA. Regarding storage, I'm slowly selling storage basses, still leaves13 I can display and play though (and 5 to sell).

Time flies. I still remember when I almost bought my 1st Dingwall from you over 10 years ago. Must be nice to be talented enough to play both guitar and bass.

Good advice here. I don't know how happy letting go of the SJ5XXX would make me though, it's the best bass I've ever played, bar none. My SJ4XXX is close. Oh well, real world problems right? The worst that could happen is I end up keeping the best bass I've ever played

That was a beautiful Dingwall, super classy flame maple, AB-1!

And my guitar playing is a work in progress. I’m having a ton of fun, but it’s a long road. Cheap guitars are my speed, at least for a couple more years.

Retirement gives me time to learn a few new tricks.

I’d like to start spending winters down south, and clearing out stuff I don’t need is part of the plan.

It would take a special SJ4or SPJ4 to get this away from me. Certainly the newer pickups, and an SPJ4 would have to have the routing for a neck position J. It is a one-off. Sheldon told me they wouldn't paint another like it (Mary Kay in satin finish). I've also never seen another with the brown ebony blocks. It has Ptone/Ptone/SFII in it. Absolutely mint. A wad of cash, maybe.

Speaking of selling things, something I never do, I have had flats on my SPJ5 for the last while, and never really gelled with it - maybe I just don't like flats. I ended up wearing blisters on my fingers because it just didn't cut through and I was plucking so hard to hear myself. In partciular the B and E strings sounded dead which I wondered was just these strings or bad nut contact, etc, even getting to the point where I wondered did I want to keep this bass at all if I couldn't get a proper old school P-bass sound out of it. I know, heresy!
Anyway, last week I changed the strings to GHS Pressure Wounds as a compromise and it's a revelation. With the tone rolled off I have the same solid thud I expect from flats but with enough honky Dingwall midrange to hear the note clearly.
So that was a successful experiment which has given this bass new life! I guess I won't need to sell it after all.

GHS strings will fit dingwalls? Or only the supers?

Mine would be a Super J-4 with a middle pickup and a buffer preamp (no tone control). What a day for a daydream, what a day for a daydreaming boy (it will never happen! 😄 ).

Another Luminlay install on the AB-4 string. It’s so much easier with neck off! Some fret polishing, a fretboard clean and oil, and a bit of super fine sanding on the neck. It turned out super slick. About 90 minutes on this one.

I was sizing up the Cirrus today and decided Luminlay was a no go. The existing dots are very close to the surface of the fret board. The risk to reward ratio just wasn’t worth it. Getting to the dots from 12 up was going to be very difficult because of the through neck construction and the long upper horn. It’s a pristine Cirrus. No need to risk a slip up.

And that leaves me with a Luminlay rod that I can use to replace the dots on the face of my AB -1. It has 3mm dots running up the fretboard between the D and G strings. Double the fun on this one. That’s tomorrow’s project.

FINALLY got to play a Dingwall today. I walked into a local shop and they had an NG2, 5string.
I've only ever played one fanned fret bass. Ironically in the same shop.
That was a headless Ibanez, and I did not like it. On that bass it felt like I was reaching over the nut to get to the first fret on the E (aka F)
This did not feel that way at all. The edges of the fingerboard feel really rolled.
I'm sure all you know this.......

I .... greatly dislike the colors of the NG line. And would prefer the 3 pickup configuration.
I'm thinking a Combustion is the way to go.
I'm greatly intrigued by the SP1 5 strings, but the tariffs have me nervous. Guess I need to look into that...
