Hey Super J owners - I'm on the fence on jumping into the Dingwall world, particularly with a Super J. I'm usually a Fender guy, but in the mood for something cool/modern/different.

On Dingwall's website, they list the nut width at 1.65", as opposed to the traditional J width of 1.5". Does the 1.65" nut width feel more like a traditional Jazz Bass 1.5" nut width, or does it actually feel a bit wider? I'm used to P Bass necks so I like the 1.65" on paper, but was wondering if someone with experience owning both could chime in. Thanks!

I think the nut measurement on the main page might be wrong. The compare page lists 1.5". You should email Dingwall to verify. 1.65" is the same as the Super P, which should have a wider neck, so I don't think it's how the measurement is taken that's the issue.

Hi everyone, I apologise because I’m sure this question has been asked before but I’ve just received my first Dingwall (NG3 5-string, waited 3 years to be able to get it) and I’d like to have it set up in drop F#. Does anyone have an opinion on the best gauge strings to use and if any other changes need to be made? My local guitar shop are great and I’ve trusted them with other bits of expensive gear they’ve loved working on! Always turned out great, they just don’t have huge amounts of experience with multi-scale bass guitars (I’m pretty sure I play the ‘heaviest’ music out of the regulars there!)

I’d lean on Payson strings as he offers a .145,.160,.170 if that’s your jam. Dingwall offers a F# b string as well.

You may want to consider getting an F# nut from Dingwall also.

No, they came from the factory like that for a while. I‘ve had two lovely AB1s in the past, both from 2012, which had this feature. If you search this thread specifically, you should find some info.

I’m gonna hijack the thread for yet another topic.

Got the new v4 Payson bridge just released that has “a more optimal angle” and “doesn’t hang off the back” installed on my NG3-6. Well, the claims on FB are kinda true. Definitely better!

As you’ll see, while better, still substantial angle on the 6-string version. And it still has the slightest overhang off the back, but I mean slight. Not quite OEM level of fit here.

I’ll be keeping it for now, at least until details around the minimalist bridge are released and I can see how much a retrofit might cost.

I definitely prefer it over the old Hipshot license individual pieces.

I’ll find a photo of my old voodoo and show you some over hang!!! lol.

Absolutely! I definitely like this one much better! And think it’s the best aftermarket bridge currently available for Combustions.

My joke was just that the saddle drifting off to the side reminded me of that meme with the eyes going every which way. Not disparaging the new bridge. I’m just a jokester It’s a fantastic upgrade! And way better than solo saddles.

Not quite a full seamless OEM look yet, but I hear there may be an even newer 6-string model version in the works with further tweaks. We shall see…
