Dingwall Owners Club

I imagine pricing will land sometime after NAMM. Also hoping it's more like a Z profile, as that would be a cheap way for me to get a Z 6 string then, though then I'd be in for a preamp and a refinish as well... so I'm probably best off just holding out to find a used Z6 hah.

Pretty much, or to put it another way, the lower frets end up a couple inches closer to the center of your body. This video from JFB has a full walk-through of what you need and how to do it. I did it on my NG3 and now the factory strap lock is gathering dust! (And I'm not all that handy, it was nerve-wracking to drill into this pricey of an instrument, but it worked out)!

I should definitely do this with my purple NG3. After drilling additional holes for the series/parallel switches and rewiring the whole thing, I’m pretty far past being nervous about modifying that particular member of my Dingwall family.

Compound radius neck! Unlike 9.5 on NG. I wonder if it’s 7.25-20 like on Canadian models or something different.

And why do they insist on this recessed jack…
It’s been tweaked a bit, looks like it may sit a little more shallow and without being right up at the corner edge, it may avoid the issue where the contour of the body below the jack can push out a 90° plug if it rotates too much.

Edit to add: I worded that clumsily, but I think you guys can see what I’m getting at.

It’s just a matter of taste and that’s cool. I REALLY like it. But I’d admit some other options, like the NG sig does, would be great too ☺️ full matte black? Sign me up! but some wouldn’t like that either.

And a solid color “import Z” might encroach on the domestic Lee Sklar and Z line (though this could also potentially serve as a way to take the pressure off of the custom shop and reduce wait times 😉)

Totally with you on the recessed jack. Don't like that. Seems like a flat jack would actually be cheaper. I dunno.
The absolute best type of output jack is one that will allow both types of plugs to work with it. One of mine that only came with an angled output had a flat access cover behind it and I took advantage of it so that I've now got two separate output jacks, two choices to go with.

My completely uneducated guess is somewhere between 3500$-3800$ for the Umansky signature.
On the Facebook post, someone speculated 5k, I replied that I guessed about 4,000 to 4,200, and got a quiet like from Jacob Umansky, take that for what it’s worth.

I base my WAG for that on the finish being more complex, the wenge board, the speedo dots, and the FDVs, versus the Combustion/NG line with simpler paint, maple/pau ferro, simple straight dots on the board, and FD3n pickups, plus assorted other minor value adds.

Edit to add: after looking at the specs, add: compound radius, carbon fiber neck reinforcement, and the push/pull volume active/passive.

Oh, and it might make a difference to some folks that it’s Indonesia/Canada vs China/Canada, but I fully expect that the factory Dingwall already works with in China could have done this, if they had been given the contract for it.

Yeah that all makes sense to me.

Will probably be a bit too steep for me only because I'm not necessarily in love with the finish.
I'll probably opt to just save for a possible custom Z in hopes that various economic factors are better in 3-5 years.
But as far as features go, getting a Z3 production model is extremely exciting.

I’m not usually one for a white or predominantly white finish, and for sure I’d love to see some other ceruse color combos added to the mix, but I do find that I like this one. My biggest issue is that Dingwall seems to want all of my income, what with my in-production AB2, the Lambo Orange NG3 coming back, and now the SOL. I don’t know what the lag is going to be, before these actually hit the market, but I know I’ll be saving up for one.

And that's not even considering the possibility of a hypothetical SJ1.

I guess I should rephrase, I like the Umansky finish, but I moreso worry about showing up to a country gig in Nashville with it lol.
I figure I could maybe sneak it in if I have a nice solid color/natural finish.

Awesome things coming from dingwall.

What do you mean? Ceruse is a very rustic western finish. You’ll be fine!!
