I like that tone too. My ABZ-5 has the bridge wired series and a series/parallel switch for the neck. It seems to open things up just a bit and adds another tool to the kit.

On another note, I've been thinking about an Afterburner I with wenge board, natural flame maple top, and the 3X pickup option. Is the rotary switch 4-position and if so what alignments of the 3 pickups are provided?

The four position switch on a 3X is, as far as I know, neck colo/neck and bridge parallel/middle and bridge series/bridge solo. Those are the four most useful sounds - the typical J sounds plus an MM configuration. I personally wouldn't mind some more options, but if I were to choose any four, I'd choose exactly those.

I only have one other left, and only for lack of trying and/or not being able to get what I want for it.

I received my strap and am waiting on the strings (little order mixup, more later). The strap is indeed very nice. I should mention though that at its maximum length it is *just* long enough for me. The right hand would be just above the belt. I'm 6'2", which I guess is "average tall" but not crazy tall. Just something for the other tall folks to keep in mind.

Thanks. I bought it from a TB'r. It wasn't in my house more than an hour and I already had Payson Nickels on it.

The tone is way different than my ABI. More "zingy".

My ABI has the older FD3 bridge and P-Tone Neck pup. Much darker. At first I though about changing to a P-Tone on the ABII. Now I think I may try it at our festival gig next weekend first. When I play along with recordings at home, it kinda sits nicely in the mix.

Even though I've always had multiple basses, I've never brought more than one to a show or rehearsal, so it's about the same feeling. Now that my band is ending in a week, I have even less reason to have multiple basses.

So it would be just right for me. I'm 6'2", but wear my bass up high.

I'm the same height as you, and play roughly in the same position as you do from pics you've previously posted. My new dingwall strap was about 1.5" longer than my old one when it's in the shortest position, but it can go longer. I can make it shorter still if I want to use the 2nd of the factory holes for the strap locks, but then I'd have a tail hanging loose or have to cut it off. It feels fine "as is" so I'm leaving it alone. You'll be fine with it.

I just joined a pair of guys (guitar and drums) playing a sort of prog-alt-post-rock. No singer currently, but I don't think we need one. The Dingwall kicks ass at rehearsal, cuts through perfectly and the low B thunders along when I need to go down an octave or two.
