Parchment. White Peal would accent the blocks even better, IMO. It's not my bass, so my opinion is moot.
I'd love to hear one of these new FD-3 equipped Super J's, though! What is the typical use for this magnetic viewing film?
As I have almost the same bass in the end I decided for white pearl because it goes with the pearl inlays

In the studio doing a country record with Mark Collie and Billy Bob Thornton. Brought my Super J/P4 running through a vintage B15 mic'd as well as a direct through my Reiner 6SL7 pre. Possibly the best recorded bass sound I've ever gotten. At first the bass was strung with DR Hi-Beams, which sounded dreadful to me. Just for grins I put on a set of Roto flats and the bass is sounding so darn good. Loving it

I do have another bass with a maple board and pearl blocks, a Lakland DJ5. It originally came with a regular white guard and I got a white pearl guard for it that looks really sharp, so I definitely see the appeal. Can you just get one from the shop?

As for the magnetic viewing film, and what a coincidence here, the reason I have it is actually the Aria SB-600 you can (barely) see in the corner of one of the pics. The original pickup was bad and I needed to find out exactly what was in there. Aria made all sorts of different pickups and frequently changed what went into each model. But they all look the same and are completely encased in epoxy. The magnetic viewing film was suggested on the Aria Club thread as a great way to find out what kind of coil configuration it was. Worked like a charm.
For just a few bucks it is a pretty cool thing to have around as it will reveal any magnetic field. Probably intended for Sciencey-Stuff but pretty useful in general I think and certainly helpful for checking out enclosed pickups. Recommended!

Yes mine is the one on the Super J gallery, but for that pic Sheldon used the parchment pickguard and not the white pearl one.
I wanted to follow-up on my prior post:
What I figured out was that I could get the brightness I want by using the Presence control in lieu of the Treble control.
The Treble EQ is centered at 7k and the Presence EQ is centered at 10k.
I'm not sure if the Dingwall pickups have a resonant peak around 7kHz, but that treble EQ just didn't play nicely with the Dingwall.
Now that I'm cutting Treble and boosting Presence, it sounds 100% better -- and my Precision and Langejans basses still sound great with the change too.

It's been my go to studio bass...come to think of it, that's the bass I used the most live as well

So last night just for the fun of it, I switched my neck pickup into parallel and used my bridge in series and ran them both in series. Usually I'm a S/S/S player...but I enjoyed it very much. It was somewhere between that big fat punch and a more traditional tone without any sign on congestion in the low mids. I may try it out on Friday's gig.
