That's a great price for a Sklar. It would give me plenty of room, since I play right up near the neck joint (just in front of the pickup on my Z-1. I just can't make that pickup arrangement work for me. (not to mention that I'm not in the position to spend 3k on a bass right now)

No doubt fret wear looks more severe on a fanned fret instrument. My opinion is that because of the fret angles there's more surface area of the fret contacting the strings yielding an advantage. Whether this is true or not I don't know, the concession here is anytime you wear the frets out on a bass it means you are most likely winning. Simply put it is a good problem to have.

Today I'm going to post this one, that's had a couple owners and a couple names. I believe it currently resides in the hands of Ed "Full Range Bass", and I believe it has a fretless neck on it. After looking at that nice CAR Sklar in the classifieds, I was thinking about how while it was a great price, there are actually few Dingwalls I'd really 'jump' for since I have my own masterpiece. This is the one that comes up as one of the few I'd make that leap happen.

Yeah, I love this one. I feel like it's of that era at the 'shop' where (to the detriment of turn-around time) Sheldon and crew were pretty willing to try out nearly anything that presented a creative and technical challenge, although the return probably doesn't balance the effort and time. There's not much 'standard' about this bass. From the wood choices (closer to a Prima than a Z), to the unique integrated ramp/pickup cover that hides a Z-1 setup.

The funny thing is that I would just play in front of the ramp anyway. I remember it being a pain to build too.

It was originally referred to as the 'snotburst' when it was made for the original owner, obviously based on the yellow/green finish. Once FRB got his hands on it, it became known as the "Brazil", I believe based on the location of the original owner,(although I guess it could be in relation to the Brazilian flag's yellow to green background field). Again, if you look at the last picture, it's got the second neck on it, the fretless neck.

FRB hasn't been around much on the forums, but I see him regularly on Facebook, where he's a fairly active poster/commenter. I don't know what the status of his collecting is these days, he seldom mentions it.

Nice. I almost picked up a combustion with similar specs. Love that color combo.

Wait isn't too bad. I just stay busy and try not to think about it. The month is halfway over so two weeks roughly. Plus shipping time that is.
