I would like to buy a Dingwall 5, if anyone has one at 8 lbs or less please let me know.
Maybe you have a Super J and you want a Super P, or vice versa. Maybe you have an ABZ and you want an AB II, maybe you have an AB II, well you get the picture....

I've tried the internet, TB classifieds, the shop to no avail. Most of my future is in the rearview mirror so up to a year wait is a no go. One was for sale in TB a while back, I PM'd and got no response, one was for sale here, it went within hours. Another for sale recently, again no response to PM request for info.

So I have been talking to a builder about a custom and I can get into one for around $2,500 with a 2 month delivery, that I could live with, but I would be settling. So hoping this isn't inappropriate and someone planning to sell will PM me.

My heart goes out to you brother, but the wait is worth it. I won't play any other electric bass!

Sorry, but another quick question....what's the difference between the older FD-3 4L pickups (like in that blue ABZ) and the newer ones? Just the housing?

The FD3 is wired parallel only, while the FD4L gives you the option of series (MachII pu).

Slight correction - FD3 pickups that are not 4L are pretty old by now, most basses come with 4L only. 4L stands for 4 leads, meaning that you can rewire them to series or parallel internally, or install a switch. The difference between the rounded and rectangular shells is in shells only, it's the same pickup.

4L's were introduced to stop guys like Bocete from cracking their pickups open to rewire the coils on the kitchen table.

Sadly, I can't even look right now as I have to finish housework (I'm a retired, empty-nest Mr Mom (2 Yorkies at home though )), then it's off to practice, but I look forward to researching when I get home later (loooong practice tonight which is why I'm looking to go light).

There's a fiesta red PJ in the classifieds now looks pretty sweet. Little over you cap but not by much.

Well I got the box open.

Neck feels great, the body finish is gorgeous, bass sounds great at quick low volume test. As good as it is, it is not a Canadian built instrument. There a few fit and finish items that don't measure up to the basses created solely in Sheldon's shop.

Obviously there's a difference in price point. Can you be a little more specific? Just out of interest, not planning the get a second D just yet (only a week or so to go).

Pickguard has some ragged edges, not a big worry because I am going to scrap it. The frets are not perfect along the edge of the neck. They are even on the g side, but a little wavy on the b side. Nothing is sharp, but it isn't perfect.

Price point and all, my luthier will go over it when he does the body route.

Well I am unsure of the color right now. To fit three pick ups in there, the body route for the neck pick up has to be tweaked a tad. So a new guard will have to be cut regardless. Not sure about color. BWB, matte black, maybe something silly like white pearloid.

WD Music has lots of different options, as does Warmoth.
StewMac has the lowest prices, but the least "out there" options.

Black pearloid might be cool, especially if you can find one that has brown notes in it to "bridge" the color of the fretboard in with the color of the body.

Thanks Jeff. I had been thinking about another fiver, and when I saw this one, it was too unique to pass on.

I've been playing on it for a bout half an hour and I haven't even plugged her in yet. Great acoustic tone and incredible low action. The damn thing showed up in tune BTW! Sheldon does it again, as usual!
