Well, I like them a lot. I don't have much experience with the FD3 in Canadian basses for comparison. So far, everyone who has gotten a Canadian bass from me likes them. Although; I have sold many more NG2s/Combustions than Canadian basses so this isn't a huge database. There must be a reason the FDV is becoming the standard pickup for Dingwall Canadian basses.

Yes. There must be. I've played a lot of variety of Dingwalls and with my main band I need a strong mid presence.it is my understanding the FDVs have this?!?!
I like the idea of being able to roll back the mids vs not having enough. Ie a 2 band glock. My current pick up spec on my NB(new build) is a p tone neck then 2x SF2 in the MM position.

I've really enjoyed the SF1s up to this point and use them mostly in the MM position so figured I couldn't go wrong with that set up. Now instead of the SFs you've got me pondering putting in the FDVs hmmm.

But on another note..... I've been dying to get in line for a fretless build.
Please no one steal my thoughts. Lol.

Here's a question for you guys that know such things (and there seem to be quite a few of you in here):

I'm going to have a leftover set of the stock pickups that came with my older Afterburner pretty soon. Can they be used in parallel fret applications if they are mounted traditionally? I might have an old bass that could benefit from them if they can.

I believe so - the square ones are just standard EMG-40 sized. I don't know if anything like staggered polepieces would be an issue, but, physically, they will fit.

So you could perhaps use them, but you'd want them mounted at an angle.

I wonder what the magnet shape/pattern is under the cover?

I assume DW pickups are mounted at an angle in order to be under the same harmonic place for each string, so I'm confused why mounting them perpendicular would be the wrong move.

Better go check out that thread.

Well if it turns out you can't, I'd be interested in buying them off of you. My Z2 is an older one equipped with bartolinis and I've been looking to try out a set of the dingwall pickups in it

Perhaps this screen shot from the Namm 2016 video on YouTube which shows the FDV pre-production model pickups might help you.

Sheldon describes the FDVs as more "vintage" and the FD3s as more "modern". As you know, the Darkglass pre has a "low mid" and a "high mid" so I am not sure it will or would matter so much when used with this pre as one has such control over the mids anyway.

As I've stated here before, I love the sound of the stock PUP in the neck position of my SJ5XXX so much, I'm not going to change it even though I have 3 Ptones and 1 FDV. I'm thinking Ptones at the middle and bridge or possibly Stock/FDV/Ptone.
