I don't want to mis-quote Sheldon: but I recall that the third straplock button is 75mm from the existing one, and under the saddle (just in case you goof it up). He also mentioned that the hole you drill should be a few thousandths less than needed, so that you don't dimple the paint when you install the straplock.
I put a third button on my bass after talking with Sheldon when he was in town. For me, it has worked out beautifully and my NG-2 now hangs a little more vertically and the nut is closer. I don't play high notes much on this bass- so I'm not sure how I would like the fit for the top register, but also, I don't care
Thanks. Is that a Dunlap flush-mount strap lock? If so, do you have different locks on the horn and back? If it's not, did you do anything to counter-sink the button or just drill a hole for the screw itself?

It is a Dunlop flush mounted straplock, and so the male Dunlop straplocks work interchangeably with all of the strap pins/buttons, regardless of where they are located on the bass.
I like the tone best when picked back close to the bridge, with the strap in the forward position like that, is it harder to reach your picking hand back that far ?????

I have a question for the Z3 community.
I just purchased a beautiful Z3 from a fellow TBer. I love everything about this instrument. The sound the playability and the great looks. I do have a couple of questions about this model of bass.
Because of the way the pick up selector functions you can't engage all three pickups at once (it is a Z3 after all- emphasis on the 3))
1) Can the switch be changed to allow for all three pickups to be engaged?
2) Has any one done this?
3) If you have done this does it add another great sound or nothing significant (so not worth the effort)

You can change the wiring for all three pickups to be on. I had Mo down at the Nordstrand shop install a new rotary switch to allow 5 different settings. Neck solo, Neck/Bridge, Neck/Middle/Bridge, Middle Bridge, and Bridge solo.
Ray Salamon over on the Dingwall forum posted a very useful link to his soundcloud where he recorded himself demoing his ABZ 3X 6 string! He demos his bass through every possible setting with the 3x pickup configuration as well with the pickups being in parallel or series.

Thanks Funk - great information. Do you know what the brand/model of rotary switch he used? I'm not a teckie so I'll have to have my guy get the part and install it. I like the idea of all the combinations you mention. Were you able to use the stock knob for the new switch or do you have to use another?

Hey Mick. My green 6 string AB1 (the one in the demos linked) has the "D-bird" rotary in it. It's actually a very simple install - no soldering required.
What other info are you seeking? I can certainly help, but, I'm not sure what else is missing that hasn't been provided
Also, it's still only a 4 position rotary, not a 5.
The D Bird rotary switch is almost what I want but not quite. I want the one that Funk wrote about - I'm waiting for him to (hopefully) get back to me with the brand and model he used.

My apologies for the delayed response. The rotary switch that I had installed was this one:

I was able to use the stock knob. No problem there. Although I have an older model of Dingwall so if the knobs have not changed with the more recent basses than you should be good.
