@alembicbones - Just wanted to let you know that any NG2 can be modded to a X3. Pretty sure there is a post by somebody who modded a version one NG2, and I posted info and pics re modding my version two NG2. The new versions don't require any re-routing at all, simply a matter of buying another pickup and an X3 selector switch, which can be the D-Bird one if you so desire. Note: after modding my NG2 I ended up changing it back. I have two X3 customs, so I really didn't need it, and felt that it altered the NG2 mojo that I like.

Just make your NG2 3X, the newer models are already routed for the third PUP.
I'm considering it myself !!!!!

A few months back I went to World Class Audio to track a live studio performance video with Vie Jester...this is what what prog rock in drop G# at 3am sounds like with a Dingwall ;)



Big thanks to @Blues Cat for sending me out a heavier gauge string set on short notice to accommodate the extra low tuning :thumbsup:

Hi, does anyone have any experience using the Rotosound Swing Bass 66 strings on their Super P or J? I've always used these on my Fender P and love them, so would really like to have them on my Super P as well. I've seen a few posts referring to them, but nothing really conclusive. Hoping to find out if the Roto 5 string set will work (long or extra long scale?) and /or if anyone else who loves Rotos has found an suitable SS replacement. Thank you.

Yeah, the playing is really, really good - all three musicians. I dig the Hagstrom too - I have not seen that model before. The singer's voice is uncannily smooth yet strong at the same time - exceptionally well-suited for this music. The sound quality is excellent, especially for live. Although I would not have complained if there were a little more bass in the mix! Do love the bass tone though.

I am not sure if it is because of my brand new 34" widescreen monitor or what, but after watching the video (and I was so entranced I couldn't stop in the middle), now I need to go take some Dramamine because of the camera work. (Example: 1:52 to 2:03) I would encourage the photographers to incorporate a little tripod use to give the viewer a chance to regain their balance before sending them into a dizzy spin again!

Thanks man! This was actually all shot on a RED primarily with a steadycam harness, the operator was a beast for being able to run it as well and as long as he did.

It was an all day shoot for a video production company, so somewhere around 8 different bands and artists came through the studio: they started shooting at 5pm, we hit a little after 3am and wrapped by 4am :dead:

Massive tone with good clarity and growl. Really like the song, arrangement, and mix. You guys rock!

I was definitely a good challenge to both track and film live, as well as mix with some less than ideal source sounds.

The studio was excellent, but since they were set up for a full day of 4k video shooting (with nearly a dozen others bands/artists) we spent literally zero time dialing in tones at 3am; it was really just line-check and go.

We couldn't even use a 57 for the guitar, since the only one they had on hand somehow suddenly broke after functioning fine all day!

Nice to hear that the end result seems to be translating well across multiple listening platforms :thumbsup:

Definitely glad to have the extended scale for tunings like that; while I was waiting on an express shipment of slighter heavier gauges courtesy of @Blues Cat I was playing some of their tunes on a 35" parallel fret bass...not NEARLY as enjoyable :spit:

Did you end up selling your white AB 3x? I would think that the 37" of the 5-string would help with extra low tuning. The 4-string is at 36.25" with the B (or G# in this case), right?

In any case, it still sounds good. 36.25" is still long.

I did, and the extended scale here was still plenty; that bass is usually tuned BEAD with the normal gauges, so @Blues Cat just sent me some slightly heavier strings and I was all set

I was specifically ordered that AB3X for a salary gig that ended, and I'm not one to keep a huge stable of instruments that don't see regular playing time...and I needed to the funds to order another Dingwall of course ;)
