Happily trending in my own peculiar direction.
Mistake #1 - Notifying all those dastardly Dingwall-aholics on TalkBass that one is available.
Mistake #2 - Not having it in your hands already. 50 miles is nothing for true love.
No one on this forum is going to tell you NOT to buy a Dingwall.
I might... If I want to buy it for myself instead.
This is a no-brainer. If for some bizarre reason you don't bond with it, you can sell it for what you paid, or even more, because demand for the NG2 far exceeds supply at this point in time.
Must be older models, I'm thinking, if not these prices are extremely low !!!!!!
Killer price indeed, I wouldn't imagine they could keep them in stock, so there will be many, many players waiting a yr and a half to receive them !!!!
Is the wait time on the NG's really that long? I thought the significant wait times was on the Canadian models.
I doubt it. Canadian models for sure. Maybe longer because of the backlog of NG2s that will probably come flooding into Saskatoon. I'm assuming once the bugs are worked out of the production line in China and these things show up in Canada there will be a mass push to fulfill orders and then things will be back on track pretty quickly. That is a market Sheldon I'm sure wants to be as punctual as possible on as the Chinese dingwalls are like a gateway drug. Gotta get that stuff out to masses so they want more and share with their friends. Despite the quality, IMO, the production market is all about quantity.
I don't know how the shop works but I would think that a goal would be to have a QC division to process combustions and the completely separate build division for the Canadians so as to not completely interfere with production flow and the quality control on that side of things as the process could get rushed or sporadic by combustion processing interference.
My guess is that if on the factory side of things can go smoothly and not take up to much "working out the bugs" time Sheldon will have the Chinese line back on track by 2019.
It's gotta be cool though to see your stuff on the used market drawing prices above original sale price.

I guess , if a player is only into 4 string that's cool, but OMG that B string on the 5'rs sooooooooo big !!!!!!
No model has ever gotten such an option. The combustions started that way.
My Glock arrived safely from Saskatoon yesterday, so after I reinstalled it and connected the custom Nordstrand NP-4a and Big Split (in Dingwall shells = 'Nordwalls'), I spent the afternoon and evening tweaking pickup heights and enjoying my new bass.
I have enjoyed playing Sheldon's FDP and Super Fatty pickups on this bass for years with the Glock on and set flat. I wasn't sure if this venture into AlNico V land could make this bass please my ears any more, but it has. The Nordwalls are more 'relaxed', for one. The Dingwall pair can go 'pit bull' quickly and the sonic attack can be intense. This is not a bad thing. The Nordstrands are just as clear and punchy but aren't as ready to go 'over the top'. The series mode with the Dingwall pickups is: 
I haven't been using the series mode because of this. The series setting with the Nordwalls sounds more usable (fat & full w/muted highs) through my Shaw/110 Flex rig. Soloing the Nordwall P is awesome. I thought Sheldon and crew really nailed a powerful precision sound with the FDP, but wow - the Nordwall is more clear, leaner, but still full, and just ever so tasty! Somehow less 'congested'. The Nordwalls in parallel is P/J tone heaven - so sweet and funky! I deem The Magical Mystery tour into AlNico V land a smashing success!

I've been doing some hummin and hawwwin about how to finish my new build coming up. Thought maybe I'd get some opinions from you guys as I'm pretty torn on a few deets.
Keeping in mind she's gonna be a fretless Z with a walnut top.
Part 1. I currently have spec'd a walnut body but I've really been thinking of going back to swamp ash. Thoughts on this please....
I've had basses with walnut bods and have loved the crap out of them and walnut just seems appropriate for fretless but I love the ash bods my Zs currently. To boot my buddy had lent me a fretless Zon for a while with a swamp ash bod and it is hands down, no question the best fretless I have ever played.
So I'm thinking of coming back to ash for the bod.
Part 2. The finish. I love tobacco burst. Picture my bass being in the photos below.(I wish, this top is breathtaking).
Option #1 Take the unpainted one and put a wenge contrast later in it. Leaning towards this myself.
Option #2 tobacco burst it.
What do you guys think?

Tough choice, both are beautiful options.This is always the hardest spec for me!
Ugh. I feel like the burst subdues the brilliance of the wood but at the same time adds a totally different Beauty.

After pondering similar choices in my own case, I finally came to the conclusion that the different body woods were really just different flavors of wonderful and that I should stop agonizing.
Not that I did, mind you, but that I should.
Ultimately, I went with the more conventional choice (swamp ash, maple) and am perfectly happy. Had I gone the other direction, I would have been just as satisfied. No looking back.
As for the visual aesthetics, you should ignore anything I say. It's your fantasy build, and who am I to suggest the redhead over the blonde? On the one hand, a dark accent strip in natural would be nice, with a refined, sophisticated look that may or may not be too subtle. The burst would have a bit more "pop" to it but mask the natural woods to a degree. Both would be beautiful. Again, no wrong choice.
Oh, and some wag will undoubtedly suggest buying a bass for each option. Exercising restraint here.
