Bass San Diego, Bass Direct, etc. Although you do occasionally see a super or two on the co.uk, seems like new ones are rarer and rarer. It's literally been years since a new SPJ5 has been posted online at any retailer. Good point that that's a reflection of ordering trends though.

We currently have two Super J's on order. One was listed then sold, but we generally don't list them until they are closer to being received. Being in the bass specialty business, it is difficult to speculate on the more expensive basses and order multiple basses, because desired specs are difficult to guess as we all have our own ideas of what we want in the basses.

Well, to think about it differently...if you're a shop ordering basses, are you going to invest in placing orders for some of the higher ticket stuff that will take more time than the production stuff with a mostly indeterminate arrival time? That's a tough sell in a world where most of the specialty shops don't have the deepest pockets and would be looking for short timelines and quick turn around on their cash.

That's just the thing though, the shops ARE investing in the highest ticket stuff (primas aside). The super series comes in lower than the AB and the Z series and is rarer. So yes, if I'm a shop, I'm placing orders for some of that stuff too, especially since they are a great gateway bass.

@bebass, don't mean to lump you in or criticize either. You regularly have a great cache of NG series along with some higher ticket basses. But click through the dealer directory for a while and you'll find plenty of ABs, perhaps narrowly more Zs (than supers) and a few supers, just not the amount of Fender style builds you'd expect to see from a company that does them so well. And what better way to draw in the traditionalist crowd than breaking them in with the supers. Some will stay but many will continue on to longscale domestic or import

It may be academic, but my 2nd revision 2017 Dingwall price sheet does still list the AB's lower than the Super series in commensurate finish/option sets, only checked because you had me wondering if they'd changed something.

Seemed to me that the Supers were closer to 4, but I did go back and check Jive Sound to see that his SJ5 was originally listed at $5.4k. Oh well, market demand is going to drive production but man people don't know what they're missing!

Well, a good point. I wish we had unlimited pockets and I would definitely order 10-15 Supers at a time.
And a good point about the higher price basses; I do have a Z incoming that would pay for 2 Supers. But for us, ordering more than...I think we currently have 6 or 7 Canadian basses on order...is speculating beyond our resources. I still speculate a lot on Dingwall as I still haven't seen this quality and demand in other basses we could get involved with.

It also makes me wonder what the L&M crowd gets to see in store that we foreigners don't get to see online. Is Dingwall doing "shop builds" or are they all pre-order only at this point? I'd have to think that the nearer retailers may get pick of the litter on shop stuff, but could be wrong about that

I can't say for sure, but I think the production que is always too full of orders for them to do too many shop builds. I think most of those are for finalizing designs and tests.

Your and @spiritbass posts about the Supers make me want a Super J 4. But I have been a long scale fan for quite some time.

I've owned 7 super series basses. I've sold all but my current one. Not because they weren't great basses, but because I was after that elusive perfect combination of woods, colors, etc. I should have realized earlier how hard to find they were becoming! Not sure it would've stopped the GAS attacks each time a new one came out, but might have held on a little tighter!

Sheldon's had some cool exclusives for smaller shops (like Jive Sound's AB 1.5, or Bass Central's exclusive on WPB at one time)...I've always felt that Dingwall is pretty egalitarian about what they do?

That black SJ4 I had was insanely good, just always get missing a B after a while. Almost bought that green SJ5 on verb a while back but I remember people having a bunch of problems with that guy on here so thought twice about it. Plus, and call me elitist, but I gotta have the inlayed D. Just gotta have it.

Having bought 2 Dingwalls through L&M I can say that this is bang on. I'm pretty sure only 3 (Maybe 4) L&M stores even stock Dingwall, the rest just look at you crosseyed when you ask about one. I know L&M order them in just like other stores.
The SK store does have B-stock stuff as it's round the corner from the factory, but the website is non-existent so you have to call them.

I am there every thursday...molesting basses while my kid has violin lessons. I will snap some pics n prices thursday if ya want. Last i rememebred, they had a purple Sklar (i think) and an abz....i witness a yellow nG2 walking out not long ago too.
