Afterburner series basses are quite wonderful too! :) Especially as Sheldon keep raising the 'bar' with the newer ones...

Check with Sheldon directly, I don't know his dealer contracts, but you may be far enough away from the closest dealer that you can work directly with him. :D

Great example. At one point that top, flamed maple accent layer, semi-hollow body wouldn't have been possible. Also the gloss finish and inlays weren't part of the program.

Rather than thinking of any of the series as lesser or more than others, I think they all have their own look, personality, sound and feel. They're all recognizably Dingwall, but all have their own "reasons" for being.

I want to e-mail about price ranges and options, I just don't want to bug the guy if I'm not going to get one for a few months.

If I go with something with custom options, then I won't feel like I'm bugging him since they take a few months anyway. I can't see myself going with custom for my first one, though.

I'm really aiming at ABI and ABII. I like the Combustions and the ABZ, but we'll see what happens. I would like a Z1 most of all, but I would go with custom options.

Thanks, good comments but I'd like to specify that the top on that bass is not flamed maple but flamed redwood as you can see from another angle, also to my surprise the dot fret inlays are m.o.p. :)

I don't know which is the closest Dingwall dealer for you but Bass Central ([Invalid or Expired Link Removed]) has some ABZ's and ABII's if you would like to check the price.

Their customer service was superb when I bought an ABZ from them.

He meant the wood layer between the body wood and the top :smug:

I check BassCentral almost on a frequent basis. I enjoy looking at basses.

I'm not set on a price range just yet, but all the prices I've seen are within how much I'm willing to pay. Except for metalstorm's custom Z3. There are a few options I'd love to find out about (i.e. how much extra they are, what models they are available on, etc.).

I might have to e-mail Sheldon soon.

sounds like you're where i was at when i ordered mine Josh. i wanted passive too, but he doesn't Combustions in six string, so that was out anyways.

i'm still amazed at how wonderful my AB I feels. and it's just freaking GORGEOUS.

he's kinda the man.

lol. like everything ever made, even BETTAH!!

the AB I gives me such a larger tonal pallette than anything i've ever owned that i can get full face melting blow EVERYBODY ELSE I'M PLAYING WITH OUT OF THE TONE POOL to the distortion or fuzz almost sitting behind the tone with the pickup selector. it's a damn amazing bass.

and even passive, the signal is hot enough that some filters and dynamically very sensitive pedals that i had to open up ALL the way to get where i wanted them with my other basses (passive also) the Dinger pushes them with more headroom to play with the effect.

Yeah, the both-pickups-in-series setting is *seriously* hot and midrangey.
