Sorry to go off-topic, but can you suggest any settings for this purpose? My Compressore stays pretty clean unless I really dig in at extreme settings.
I go for pretty extreme settings when I want it to break up, normally turn the gain cranked, threshold all the way down, attack all the way down, release higher than I would regularly use it, adjust to taste, the higher you turn it the more sustain you will get from it. I start with the ratio low then dial it up to get it to break up more. The master volume depends on what its going into, if using any regular amp or a/b'ing clean sounds I will use it to balance dirty/clean volumes. Most frequently I use a bit less extreme settings but still with the gain high enough to get a little dirt from it on hard hit notes without a big jump in volume, nice thing about using a compressor for grit, and use the master to hit the reddi with a hotter signal to get it sounding the way I like. I still need to get my hands on a VT to play around with, haven't even tried one yet, but heard so many good things.
