Disappointed in Chromes

I put some Chromes (ECB81) on my standard 34" scale (w/BAII bridge) Fender P and the G string is too short.
It keeps coming unwound from the peg because I cannot get enough windings I guess.
Granted, I know the BAII adds maybe an inch to the string length, but that should not be a factor, at least it isn't for every other string I have used.
I ended up having to scrap the A, D, and G strings. I kept the E string because it was long enough and it gave me a fresh E-string, then I put my used Ernie Ball Regulars A, D, and G strings back on it. They actually balance out really well.

I would of loved to do a review on these strings, but I guess I'll only be able to review the E string.

I'll be buying GHS strings next time...

I have used chromes on every bass I own. I have never seen that problem. They may have gotten a 32" string mixed in. Call them and they will make it right.

Sorry to hear that, but it's not a Chromes fault: all D'addario's strings are different from other brand, and in most cases you have to use the superlong scale, like for example string-through-body mounting.
This fact is well explained on their website.

I do not blame them or say it was their fault per se, I was just saying I am disappointed.
I am sure they would probably fit with a regular standard Fender bridge.

Just another one of those string buying adventures I guess, lol.

EDIT: To D'Addario's credit I will say I like the E.

I find the length issue hard to believe. Must have been a mistake in the factory as mentioned. My Hamer Cruise Bass with the Gotoh bridge still gives me three full windings on the G. It's 34" from the bridge string ball receptor to the hole in the tuning peg. On that bass, the Chromes are killer!

I had a set on my body through Fender P bass. They were the long scale set as the store didn't have any super longs. The only issue I had was I had to cut the silks back a little.
I would say it was a mistake in packaging. Email them and they'll make it right for you.

I have a spare .045 if that may help you? Small cost to cover getting it to you...

Its long scale out of an ECB81 set though I believe...

Sounds like a fluke to me. Like others have said, call them and they'll make it right.

Double check the package was not a ECB81S (Short Scale) or the baggie inside...

Well here is an update.
Don Dawson caught wind of my experience and offered to send me a replacement set, so I am really happy about that!
Great service.
I'll let you all know how the new set fits and plays.

I've been using several sets of chromes. they were never too short. If yours are short scale strings, the blue silk should be on the nut.

I was told by D'Addario that ALL of their electric bass guitar strings, regardless of type or scale, are cut to a length of 48 inches. Now I'm confused!

All of our bass strings are trimmed at 48". That is accurate. Where the silk starts is obviously related to the scale length of the wrap.

Hi Don! Great! So, there should be no problem with any of the above D'Addario bass strings sets reaching and wrapping around the tuners.
