Disco Double Thumb?

I am pretty sure the bass lick for the first 20 or 22 seconds is a double thumb and pluck lick on the D string. I have to look up who played on this Melba Moore song. This is me attempting it. I don’t have particularly good double thumb technique.

You're probably right, I only said that cos I tried and can't play it on the D, but can on the G lol. Your double thumbing is better than mine.
He's getting so much bounce on the string, that's gotta be much easier on the lighter string and without another string in the way ?
Although the rest of the track does sound like lots on the D string.

It's easy to 'over think' double thumbing. Victor's advice of using the thumb the same way you'd use a pick
is spot on, imo.

That’s what I do, I just need to practice it much more than I do.

Thanks! I had no idea it was him! He recorded some of the best bass lines ever. I guess if anyone would break off a little Pre-Victor double thumb, it might as well had been Jimmy Williams.

I had more listens and still don't know, but would bet on open D (it's so choked and thin it's almost not there, that's hard to do fretted) and double thumb on the G string.

Yes the first can be an open D also. Whatever sounds best.
