dissappearing tab websites

Hi all,

just noticing lately there seems to be alot of tab websites being shutdown with threat of legal action etc being undertaken my some labels?
any thoughts or news on this???
im a guitarist turned bass player so trying to play by ear is pretty hard especially on alot of songs where the bass is drowned out a bit (opeth and metallica comes to mind)

just weird as I didnt think so many bands tabs would dissappear? sure a few of them might be with this music association of labels but it seems any band that is slightly mainstream has has their tab pulled off websites???

at least tooltabs is still open if that died I dont know what id do!

There's been plenty of discussion (sometimes heated) on here about that topic. Do a search and you'll get the whole sad story.

Basically it breaks down to those who have no problem using TAB and those who think anyone who uses TAB is a wuss. Not to mention the whole legal vs. illegal argument.

tabs can get you started on a song and help give you that boost in the beginning. i hate that hal leonard and other print publishers are attacking these amateur websites --- they really have little to fear. online tabs essentially blow compared to a real music book, but not everything is available in print, plus amateur transcriptions are just an interpretation of the music.

ah, well it's a messy situation.

i hope tab sites don't become extinct, they're responsible for turning a lot of curious normal people into blissfully demented musicians. everyone needs to start somewhere.

oh and if you DO use tab sites, keep in mind like 98% of the tabs put up are awful. even if they're getting some of the root notes correct, they may be playing the wrong octave, hollow open strings instead of rich fretted ones, missing tons of fills or just plain bad.

dont worry im painfully aware how bad tabs can be,...

my favourite memory is of someone doing a coal chamber guitar tab claiming that it was all in standard tuning haha

and yeah I dont get what the big deal is,...
I can't find 90% of "tab sheeted books" for music I want to learn,... funnily enough most of the band books I have seen (jaco and technique ones etc excluded) have been on bass lines that are so easy to hear,... blink 182, nirvana, greenday etc et al...

ah well thanks for the help guys!
