Distinction

Whenever I play with a full band, all I seem to hear from my amp is just a wall of undecipherable bass, not the melodic and distinct style I have that I'm real proud of. I want people to be able to make out my notes just as easily as they make out the guitar notes!

Are there any pickups out there (that arent real expensive) that will give my bass a more clear, distinct tone? Thanks for any help.

i have a Godin Freeway 4 bass, which is awesome - thats not the problem.

My amp is definetly to blame, its a fender rumble 60 turned with everything turned up to full, its the only way I can hear it over the band. Im investing in a new amp, I guess a cabinet? Can u use combo amps as an amp head for cabs?

The Godin is a good bass. Nothing is going to improve the Fender rumble. You need a better amp. The Yorkville XM200 combo will set you back just under $600 Canadian and it's a great choice. If you need extra volume you can add an extension cabinet, but even on its own it's very good and will blow the Fender away.

Just to put it out there, whenever you turn stuff up all the way, it usually drowns the sound of the bass with unwanted feedback and interference. Set all knobs to 0. This usually gives you a flat but fuller sound. The only way around getting louder without getting muddy is a new amp. They can only handle so much, then they just sound like crap. If you are looking for a cheap replacement I reccomend the Peavey MAX series, I have the 112 and it gets really loud. Especially when I use my effects pedal too.
