DIY pickup ring/ thumbrest for single coil precision bass

Hi everyone,

I ve built this morning a prototype of a pickup ring for my Squier classic vibe 50's pbass.
I wanted to find back an ergonomy that I m used to, resting my thumb was not that easy before, YMMV.
Totally reversible mod, thanks to the double side tape, if this idea can help someone....

I personally don't see the need and a pickup cover would do the same. But nice execution and it looks professional. I'm a big believer in making things work best for you. Good for you for finding a solution and making it happen.

I think it looks a heckuva lot nicer than it does in its original configuration. The chrome surround complements the balance of the hardware. It's a Squier...I'd have no problem sinking 4 screw holes in that bad-boy.

Yeah it looks great and probably a lot more comfortable for a thumbrest.

Cool. I just got an Order Made MIJ Traditional Original 50s Precision which came with a pickup ring. I had never seen one before that. Yours looks great. Mine's wood. Still a fantastic idea, though. Something about that single coil pickup that makes me nervous to use as an anchor.

Mine seems to be removable and looks like it used to have two way tape on it. I will have to put some more on should I decide to keep it on there, it has a small amount of wiggle and I don't think I want to drill any holes into my bass.

Sorry to bring an old thread back. Had a question, are you using a humbucker pickup surround as your prototype ring to hold your single coil p bass pickup?

@Collin Bass Where did that pickup ring come from? That's exactly what I'm looking for.
