hey Doc, I know that the DJ5 is 35" scale and the 55-02 I had was the same. On that bass the neck was recessed into the body a bit more than normal to offset the extra scale length, felt pretty much like a 34". Did they do the same thing on the DJ5? How does first position feel on that bass? Thanks, Jim
The first position does not feel long like it does on my Cirrus or the Millenniums I used to have. I think the neck was inserted about one fret deeper than on most 34" basses.

DJ5 arrived. As new. Very light, sounds great, killer B string, beautiful bass.
However, fret job is awful. Few frets are raised (out of their slots) in the upper register. Seem like it was PLEKed this way. When I play the frets sink down under the (light) pressure of my left hand fingers and some notes are chocked. I'm surprised they let a bass go out the door in this condition.
No warranty as I'm not the original owner. Took it to my local luthier. Hope I can get out of it without the need of re-fretting.
For the moment, disappointment.
Did you buy it used? The seller should have to disclosure this? Did you contact Lakland, hard to believe they put something like this on the streets.
Yes, I bought it used. Well, second hand... not used actually. I only noticed this issue when after couple days of playing a few notes started to chock. It was fine the first few days. Probably took some playing pressure for the frets to start sinking. So, I believe the seller wasn't aware as he didn't play it. It came as new condition.
The reply I got from Lakland is that the warranty applies only to the original owner.
I'm sure they didn't mean to but I do think they missed it on this one.
I'll stop here... hijacking this thread was not my intention.

Does anyone know if all the Skylines go through a final setup and inspection at the Chicago shop or just certain models or price points? Jim
They all get the final inspection in Chicago, but Lakland went through a period where the frets weren't as good as they should have been in all cases.
I had a 55-64 that I ordered brand new that needed fairly intense work to keep the fret ends from slicing my fingers. My DJ5, however, has excellent fret work.
Yeah that's why I was asking, I didn't even know about or experienced fret spout or sharp fret ends until I bought my Korean made 55-02 through MF 11 years ago. The only other one I had played, it had the smaller tuners, was great. The DJ5 sounds great. Looking at getting one or another 02 in the near future. Still loving yours I presume Doc? Jim
My DJ5 is still my #1 bass for worship service, and I still love the tone. I have started playing my Forum V's more because they are so punchy and aggressive, somewhere between a Stingray and Cirrus.
This showed up in my porch today. We'll see what it does for my DJ5.
