This story interests me because it makes me think of certain famous unsolved murders like the Black Dahlia case. Many people develop exotic theories to explain famous unsolved cases, but I feel that most of them were simply committed by pretty average criminals who simply had an opportunity. I remember a killer who was executed in Florida a few years ago for some horrible murders around the U of Florida. He was a career criminal was caught when his DNA was sampled after he was arrested for a robbery in Tampa, I think.

DNA has certainly solved cold cases and cleared individuals wrongfully convicted, but you'd be surprised how many folks victimized by a car burglary expect a full "CSI" setup to roll out for their call.

They figure if the technology exists why isn't it being used to help them...why worry about costs or practicality.
