Do Americans need more expensive basses?

...and what exactly is wrong with Communism? Everything bad that we were told about Communism and what it would do to our countries has come true under Capitalism. The system ain't the problem here...

You have no idea what you're talking about. Only a person living an extremely isolated, pampered life could possibly say something so absurd. Take a look at the countries across the planet. Every single communist state was demolished once the people living there were given an opportunity to do so. This includes the mother of the entire communist movement - the former Soviet Union. There are 196 countries on Earth. Exactly 5 are communist states. And every single one of them is kept that way by force.

Image plays a huge part in every aspect of any industry. We are all superficial to a certain degree, some more than others. It is ingrained in history and culture. We use it subconsciously to make quick assessments of circumstances and situations.

Of course a proficient musician will make an el cheapo guitar sound amazing while an amatuer will suffer his/her limitations even on a high end axe. Looking like u can play and being able to are not mutually exclusive.

Pro image and equipment, proficiency of instrumentation and delivery equates to something we all want to see. What we would pay to see.

You know, dude. I never take anything you say seriously or with any merrit. It's not as simple as Communism doesn't work. The people cause it to fail, not the system itself. They apply their own greed & motivations, just like Capitalism.

Keep up the patriotism, though. Good show with that flag hanging proudly on your porch!

"Need" "want", whatever...now testify!
I'm European and I like expensive American instruments.
I'm lucky that it wasn't cars or boats that became my passion/fetish instead of musical instruments. Oh, I would be in so much trouble. :hiding: So since it's guitars and basses. it's possible for me (Norwegian middle class) to get to "the top" (by my definition) in what I own. Currently I think I have about $100k worth of instruments, and all of them happen to be made in America. This has to do with my taste (the instrument that shaped my interest in music) and the quality of the instruments being made. Of course there are great instruments being made in other places too (Germany, England, Japan), but there is a lot of amazing stuff coming from America. Like I just got my first Sadowsky (not the last, for sure) just last month. So it's expensive, sure, and add shipping + 25% on top on the whole deal in taxes, let's say it's been a tough month financially, and will be the next too! :help: But that will be relatively temporary, but the enjoyment I'll get out of the bass will last until they lower me into the ground. My only regret is that I didn't get one sooner. So that's my philosophy when it comes to instruments: get the stuff you want! I'll save my pennies and wait...
ANd also in my experience, it has made actually financial sense too, long term, to get "the right one" right away, so to speak. If I calculate the money I've spent on buying and selling "my way up" to the ultimate price, it would actually have been cheaper to just get what I wanted in the first place.

Frank Henry Martin: (Quote is from Martin catalog from 1904)
"How to build a guitar to give this tone is not a secret. It takes care and patience. Care in selecting the materials, laying out the proportions, and attending to the details which add to the player’s comfort. Patience in giving the necessary time to finish every part. A good guitar cannot be built for the price of a poor one, but who regrets the extra cost for a good guitar?"

Not Mexico, Thats NEW Mexico.

NEW Mexico, not Mexico, and yes, I was with my family. Extraordinary? Not hardly.
just figure $225.00 for a suite, for 19 nights, plus a 17% hotel tax is over $5000.00 alone. Add to that meals and air fare for 4 people, plus a car rental and daily expenses.... $10K for 3 weeks for 4 people isn't extraordinary, or extravagant, at all.

Coulda got yourself a Fodera. JK * hides*

correct, the communist utopia will never work precisely because it doesn't account for the HUMAN NATURE...of the humans involved. Our lives aren't freaking theories, they are reality. People have changed little since the inception of time....People like to own ****.

it seriously scares the hell out of me that we actually are graduating people from high school who don't know history....read this [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] go rent The Killing Fields..., read about what Kim Jong un did to his uncle....how do you not know this stuff?

that's your communist utiopia..people always die...

I generally agree with this. However, take a guy like Dick Dale... He uses a cheapo guitar and makes it sound great...

What is wrong with Communism is the same thing that is wrong with Capitalism and all the other "isms" .... PEOPLE.

No matter how good or noble it looks in theory and on paper.. in practice the same human principles will apply.. and someone will be on the top and someone .. most of the "other" someones will be on the bottom. It is that way under every "ism" concocted by man. The differences lie in the degrees and methods with which those in control resort to to keep their control and the lies they tell to keep the masses quiet.

Exactly.. didn't see this when I posted..

What the...?? "The people cause it to fail"? With what species is communism expected to succeed? :eyebrow:

Of COURSE it's as simple as communism doesn't work. It doesn't! By your own admission you cede that the tenets of communism go against the very basis of human nature. As such, communism is destined to fail.

But seriously, to answer the OP, u can drink wine out of a plastic cup or hand made crystal glass. They both serve the same function but are valued totally differently due to craftsmanship, beauty, rarity, monetary value, etc.

Wine is gonna taste like wine to any of us whichever cup it's in. But with a wine expert, he could tell u a lot more about the wine. And sell u a whole history. Either way it's always nicer to drink wine out of a crystal glass than a plastic cup. Bad wine is gonna taste like bad wine no matter what.
