Do girls usually play short scale basses?

My girlfriend uses a '90s Danelectro DC bass; it's small and light but it's a 34" scale. But then again, she's only 5'1". When she was starting out, I gave her my Stingray to practice on but it was way to big for her, so I switched her to my MIM Jazz, which was still to big. So we went bass-hunting and she picked out what she wanted. I kept pushing toward "the big wooden one with the W"........ 
I had short scale basses (Gibson EB 2 & Fender Musicmaster) in the 70s. After seeing what these are going for, I wish I would have kept them, but that's a whole other discussion. Anyway, I'm 5' 7", but have long arms, small hands, and short fingers. However, I love my Peavey with its 35 inch scale.
Does anyone know if Chas Chandler of the Animals (6" 4") used anything other than an EB 2? I think Paus Samwell-Smith of the Yardbirds used short scale basses and he was fairly tall. I don't think size has much to do with it.
I have also noticed that short scale basses are either the least expensive ($350 and under) or over a grand (Birdsongs). I haven't seen anything in between. I just bought my bass in November, so my search is fairly recent.

Fender Mustangs are about $600 - $800, so fall right in the middle of that range.
Not sure why this pic has a standard bridge, the one I bought for my daughter has a deluxe like this (awesome bridge)
It's a 34" scale that is almost the same size as short scale, the headstock is tiny and the bridge is as far back as they can get it. I had to measure mine to be sure as it doesn't look full scale.
Stock pups are good, but I replaced them with '62 reissue fenders, and it's truly a great bass now.

Doesn't look big on her at all. If you're comparing it to the way a guitar would look, then maybe. But for a bass, it looks perfect.

Yeah Man SUZI Q rocks standard scale bass back in the 70's she would play live with heavy ass gibson down to her knees.
For those of you who dont know Susi Quatro she is about 5 feet tall and wieghs less than 105 lbs.
So to those dudes that complain about about a 10lbs bass being heavy.-HAha wimps

I JUST sold a 1973 Fender Musicmaster and a new Gibson SG Reissue bass as I hated the feel and string tension. BTW, I have very small hands and have no problem playing my Sadowsky MS5 which has a massive neck.
Technique is more important than the size of person or size of hands IMO.

Hmmm. I don't THINK I'm a girly-man. I don't think it's a toy bass. It's one of my 30 bass guitars, that makes a very unique sound, and allows me to do things I can't possibly do on any other bass (like insane bends).
Why so much bass hating on this site?
i'm a girl, with relativaly smallish hands and i play anywhere from 30" to 35" scale basses. oh, and the upright, who's scale is much longer than that.
i agree that maybe she should maybe try playing with the bass a bit higher.
