Do I need a P bass?

I've got: (I'm a 5 string player)
Warmoth Jazz 5, with bart pickups and preamp
Squier ProTone Precision 5
EBMM Stingray 5
G&L L2500 Tribute
Phillips Bulldog 5
USA Peavey Millennium 5

Will a P do me any good?

It really all depends on what kind of music you play. A P bass will give you a simple, heavy, low end sound. Humbuckers can come close but still isn't quite the same. I like a P/J setup because you get that heavy low end with the articulation of a Jazz at the bridge. I'll break down some of my P/J setups.

Active P/J with 3 band EQ
Passive P/J with simple 2 band EQ and a Jazz body
Active P/J with 4 band EQ and fast (almost guitar like) neck

Again...the music you play. I play alot of classic and modern R&B so I tend to use these three alot.

No, you don't need any more basses.
If any of us were stuck with one bass of any design, we would make do, and make do well.

Do you want one?

Can you comfortably afford one?

If yes, just get one. People use need to justify wants, be real, if you want something and can get it, just do it, why do you need any more justification than wanting it and being able to get it?

I don't need anymore basses. If I were stuck with a single bass, I would make do. I want one, and can comforably afford one. I should get one. It's justified.*does best "follower" monotone voice*

Wow, I've never seen one of those. Interesting.

2" nut width too......I think they're Kent Armstrong soapbars?
Very nice bass.

The only way to answer this question is for you to get your hands on one and put it to the test, preferably in a jam or rehearsal situation where you can hear it in the mix. Don't audition it solo and make up your mind. A P-Bass does something in the mix that is pretty unique. Only then can you decide if it's useful to you.

I have switched over to mainly Jazzes and Rics, but every once in a while, only the P will do. I have to have at least one on hand.

villex?

I'm not unhappy with what I have now, but wondering what the big deal is?

I had an Ibanez Roadstar P/J which I liked, but the pickups were extremely HOT.....so I'm still not really sure what a real P feels and sounds like.....nor a really good jazz or 'Ray. :(
