Do I need a P bass?

My only bass I currently own and play is a Fender Precision and I love it. I think most bass players with a extended collection of basses in their arsenal generally have a P or a few of them in there somewhere. It is just one of those classic basses and one of the most popular. It really is personal preference what you get and love to play, however not many people say you could go wrong with a good P (....uh P bass I am referencing too here :p). However I do applaud bassists who play a bass that is not so much part of a "norm." I find myself looking at some, however then I most of the time talk myself out of it saying I have all I need right now with my Precision.

You can always get another P, they're everywhere. With the Fernandes, if you let it slip away, who's to say you'll stumble across the same deal any time soon?

Just look at the basses f/s list; I'm sure there's an MIM Pbass with Duncans and a Badass on there right now.

The Fernandes? MUCH more rare... Remember, we never regret the opportunities that we take, only the ones that we don't.

I have kind of always wanted a Fernandes Vertigo with a sustainer, but without a floyd. I found a pretty good deal on a VERY beat up one (hence the low price). I could basically sell the bass to buy the Vertigo. I'm debating it.

So the question is... do I need a P bass? It'd basically permit me to get a guitar I've wanted for a long while for $200ish bucks if I sold it, but having a P bass around is pretty nice, and I know if I sold it, it'd cost me... well, what I'm selling it for to buy another. I also know, if I were trying to get a vintage one, even an MIJ from the 80s or so, I'd spend at least twice as much, so that's not likely. Thoughts?
