Do I need an Ampeg SVT all tube head???

And I have a river right in my backyard and it is a lot of fun to skate on it too!!! I was very curious about the YBA 100 and its capabilities to give me a good overdriven tone, sure it looks like a great option too!!!

Give a try to the Ampeg SVT 7 Pro. 1000W, 14lb, very well designed, very very powerfull, a very usefull compressor...
To me, among everything amp I've owned (no all tube amps however), it's probably the best in any ways.
I also compared to the great Aguilar DB750 this weekend. The SVT 7 can sound the same with the same slam.

Which SWR amp (I have an SM400 little beast).
I want one, but don't want to carry one. Now that Yamaha owns both Ampeg and Line 6, maybe we'll see something with good tube emulation in all the right spots that would give us a <20lbs SVTd (d for digital / class D). Now that I would buy.
I'm one of the few here that NEVER thought a 3 Pro or 7 Pro sounded that close to an SVT-CL which I had during both ownerships. V4B actually sounded slightly nicer to me than an SVT and owned one for about 35 years. It was borderline loud enough with a 2x15 with a reasonably sane rock band.

I always lusted for an all tube set up, i finally was able to procure a GT Tube pre amp and a Peavy classictube power amp, the sound was terrific, warm and fat. It was fun trying out different tubes and getting to know the nuances of a tube rig.
I started gigging much more frequently and I had the change to run many different quality solid state rigs and over time i realized that i prefer SS because i found the response to be much faster and snappier than tubes. Volume also became more of a concern and my tub rig at 120 watts was just not enough, ive since moved on from the tube rig. The first head following this rig was a Genz-Benz GBE750, this head had both a SS and a Tube preamp and I had a chance to put both through the paces and proved again to myself that I prefer a SS pre amp. There is certainly a place for Tube rigs but it depends on your application and logistics of use.
My suggestion, build out a small wattage tube rig (save on cost) and see how you like it, while keeping you SS rig, out them through the paces and prove to yourself which on you actually prefer.

My 810E sounds amazing with just my SVT 7 Pro and it only has 1 preamp tube. I agree that the cab has alot to do with it. Im not sure how much better a CL would sound through it to justify cost, weight. Maybe?

like what others have said, if you will use it with the fridge, at a nice loud volume, then yes!

I compared to the CL and thought it was pretty much the same. But again, I never really played an all tube amps onstage.
But the main advantage of the 7 is its weight and it's still the Ampeg tone

Hi @Turlu we are practically neighbors as I work in Ottawa but live in Hawkesbury an hour east of you. I have played through an SVT a couple of times and thought it was the best tone I ever had. I've thought about getting a SVT but I just can't justify the cost at $2799.99 plus tax, that brings it to $3164 out the door. I also find they rarely come up on Kijiji lately and if they do they are priced right around the $2000 mark, where as, 4-5 years ago they were around the $1200 to $1500 range. So now I've l decided to give the Traynor's a shot. You can get a new YBA300 for $1649 new, and used through Long and McQuade's gear hunter site any where from $699 to $1499. If I like the YBA100 and it is loud enough for band practices and small venues I may buy that and keep my GK MB500F for medium and outdoor gigs or I may sell the GK and buy the YBA300 if I end up falling in love with that head and if neither of the Traynor's speak to me sonically I may go in a different direction and try the new Mesa Subway TT800. The one thing I'm certain on is, I can't spend $3000 on a head, so for me the SVT is out of the running for the moment.
Finally the last I was in Long and McQuade's on Hunt Club which was right before Christmas they had a Ampeg SVT CL for rent. Here's the rental prices. If you decide to buy they apply the cost of the rental to your purchase.

Everyone deserves to ride the beast to bass heaven. However, unless you are in a situation where you can turn it up I wouldn't. OTH you could rent one to see how like the sound and weight. I would suggest you do that a few times to see if it would end up collecting dust. BTW
I LUGGED that head and cab up and down California in the 70's. Nothing like it. Good luck.
