I much prefer my racer (641) to the flight jackets, but then, I have pitted it against asphalt and a flight jacket is not designed for that, while a racer is. Regardless, it looks better, and likewise looks better (and has a far more functional collar) than the 613, 626, 118 etc.
The thread, on the other hand, is not the greatest (gotta redo some seams not for the first time and it's barely 35 years old. Already replaced the lining once.)
As for your word, evidently, it's worthless. "You have a deal" is an agreement to a deal, in email, sanskrit, morse code, smoke signals, telegram, fax, or in person. If you were so busy, "I have to do more research" would be an appropriate response. Welching on an agreed to deal is weasel behavior.
