i always use a thumb rest on either pick up, depending on the sound i want, i also hold the tailpeice and when i play with my thumb

I use a thumbrest on a P and the pickup on a jazz.
I've tried floating thumb, but just couldn't make it work for me. Maybe I'm too neanderthal

I've never used a thumb rest, usually I plant my thumb on the bridge pup or float my thumb. Just depends on what song I'm playing, which ever is more comfortable.

When I play with my thumb, I use the bottom of the pickup cover as a tugbar. Seems like I'm all screwed up.
I bought this bass used. It came with the Thumb rest already attached. I use it occasionally, but it hasn't convinced me to put a rest on any of my other basses. I normally just float my thumb or use the p'up.

You couldn't have come back with a better pic in my opinion. I'm still on the lookout....I should have taken a chance on that one last year.
i just put my finger on one of my pickups and that works for me because its only a few cm away from the strings
