Hi Fellow TBers,

The 5 months of auditioning (since NWR broke up), trial and error, making mistakes and learning finally came to an end tonight

After 4 auditions and working my butt off every night from 10-12:30AM for 2 weeks learning material. I got a call tonight from the lead singer and front man.

They liked my playing, my sensibility to their style, what their doing, my efforts, me as a person and asked me to join. I have a ton of material to learn before my 1st show with them (Shank Hall)

Many of you have been with me every step (all the crap and frustration) of the way and your advice was awesome and had a lot to do with me getting the gig.

Congratulations and good luck. If you don't mind my asking, do you have any tips/tricks on learning material? The project I just joined has about 25 songs already before I joined. We're gonna write some new ones, but I want to learn as many of their old ones as quickly as I can. Congrats again, enjoy!

Learning material is tough for me.I probably have to committ more time to it than most guys.

We all learn differently.If you can get MP3s of the material,I suggest wood shedding and committ 2 hours a day to it until your comfortable with the material.

Thanks, the road back into a working Pop Rock band was a real challenge for me in more ways than I can mention in this thread. This forum was a big help, I had a lot of god advice from many TBers.

Like Blue said get recordings CDs whatever. I use a tascam the old CD one and love it. You could also ask the band for chord charts to make it easy.These things, time and practice will have you nailing these songs quickly.

Now that I'm a part of the band, the real work starts.

I have 6 new songs to learn for Saturdays rehearsal. I want to go into my 1st rehearsal better than I was at the auditions.

They are good about sending me MP3s of the songs.I just load them into my iPod, give some head phones and a bass and I'm ready to learn.

Congratulations! I've been waiting to see what would happen (although I had a strong feeling you'd be asked to join). Hope you have a blast working with these guys.

I hear you about the work, though. We just (finally) found a great drummer. He's got 30 years experience, but it's going to take some time while he gets up to speed and we finalize the arrangements (originals). Let 2011 be a busy and productive year for us all!

Amen to that, the last 6 months were not good.

My band broke up, got dumped by 2 different chics. Was looking for a band and didn't know what I was doing and made multiple mistakes during the process.

Now there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Nice job on finding a great drummer, they are rare

Starting a new band can be a cool. Not really knowing the layout of a live show with them, getting to know them as people and players and getting excited for the first gig..at least it was when I did it. Like anything it will be some work and if your dedicated and I know you are, its worth it and they will know they made the right choice. Today I enjoy doing gigs and adding new material to my band now starting our 3nd year.

Funny, for those of you who don't play in bands with long time friends.

I had e-mailed my old bandmates, we had played together for over a year.I let them know that I had finally found a new band that was a match for what I was looking for.

Not 1 response from any of them.

Falls into the category of - too many musicians have the communications skills and professionalism of a 5-year-old. Wait, did I just say that out loud? :D
