So far everything is good. A lot of the leadership points we discussed are used by this band. The rehearsal was run completely by the lead singer who is the band leader. That is fine by me. When you have everyone making comments and suggestions it generally slows things down.
• White Board in use
• Anyone that was late, heard about it
• All weak points in songs were addressed and resolved
• All vocals were rehearsed A cappella before everyone played.
My first rehearsal was very productive. I had 7 songs to learn for the week and everyone was happy. By the end of the week I will be 17 songs into their set list.
It’s really weird, out of all the crap I went through, picking the wrong bands to audition for and just getting lost and confused. I end up in the band that I wanted to be a part of the most. I love all of the songs the band plays which translates into fun.
When we are auditioning we are all different and looking for different thing. A lot of it depends on where your at as a musician. Understanding what you want in terms of genre, location, age, direction of band ect. If you really have specific requirements it might take you longer to find what you what depending on the community your dealing with.

Put 3 bills down on a 1991 Gibson Thunderbird, yeah!

In all Blue its really about getting the right opportunity or waiting for it. Trying to fit yourself into a situation that wasn't really going anywhere is what we all were discussing.. aka time wasters. As bass players there are allot of these TW type bands and people out there and thru proper screening you can reduce the issue of contacting and wasting time with them. The right opportunity came and you were on it and all is good.
Yes, and my case also speaks to networking and staying in touch with your contacts.
For those of you that don't know, this opprtunity came to me from a phone call "Out of the blue" from a band that I had auditioned for back in August.
I have also let all my other contacts know what I'm up to and who I am playing with.

That's what lots of us have been saying all along. It's all about your contacts, and the best way to find a band or put together a band is through your network first.
I don't think that's all that necessary. It shouldn't surprise you that you didn't get a response from your old band when you tell them about your new band. Many people are usually more into whatever it is that they are doing than what others are up to, and there's nothing wrong with that.
Congrats on your new band, and doing well in your new band will be the best thing towards making you forget about the old one.
Seems to me that if his contacts were aware that he was looking for a band, he should let them know that he found one.
Wouldn't that be part of his networking?

You have a point, but in the world of music, people come and go. The band you just joined could implode in a couple of months. Personally, I still like to know if there are new opportunities out there.
Since I know lots of jobbers, if I got a message everytime someone joined or quit a band, it would be annoying. Also, just because you're in a band, doesn't mean that you can't be available for something else.
I think it depends on the musical community your in. For me,i have met some cool and very nice people along the wa that I want to stay in touch with.
The people I let know about me joining the new band are those that I had auditioned for and really wanted to be in their band.
For what it's worth jive you know one of the guys that didn't respond whan I made the anouncement.
First 2 rehearsals have goone well.I have to stay up late every week night to make sure i am prepared with all the material they have asked me to learn.
They have asked me to tweak a few of my bass parts, some because they perform some of their songs a little different than on their cds and others because I might have added to many notes to stuff they want me to play straight forward and basic.
Very professionally run rehearsals, nice 32 channel board, light and lots of space.
They have asked for my opinion on arrangements and some management stuff already which I think is really cool.
BTW, I purchased a 1991 Gibson Thunderbird on Friday. It plays great and the Tbird look is a great match for this Pop Rock band.
