Do people really quit talkbass?

I wondered where you were. But I didn't want to disturb your privacy. Good for you, getting away for a while.
Thanks. I had a "near life" experience while I was gone. All the things I will never accomplish flashed in front of my face. I decided I would rather be flashed by the diverse, devisive, demented, and all 'round great people here. Sorry about my return. You are stuck with me for now.

I have stopped going to forums for many reasons and the only times I needed to create a new user name is when the previous user name was associated to an email that I had to get rid of due to the amount of spam hitting it and the amount of people spoofing it.

Or just change their user names?

Seems strange to me that people would come here everyday for years and then suddenly just STOP. My memory sucks and I never remember anyone's user name anyhow, but I know there are countless people who used to post here all the time, and they just disappeared. Some got canned, some announced their done-ness with the site, others just vanished.

Anyhow, if you've changed, or know of any people who have changed their names over the past 10 years please fill me in. And if you have any thoughts on why people suddenly quit cold turkey after years with this addiction, share your thoughts on that too.

In short I guess, who's gone - and why?

In noticed people in the thread who are gone now posting about people who were gone. What ever happened to Relic? I miss that guy.
He's now in a museum.

I sodded off from a Thailand based forum from January until just recently. One of the jackwagons on there was using personal information he'd gained from a mutual acquaintance to try & shame me.

Cut to now, and I returned, because someone tagged me in a thread. I get back there & take on nothing but a load of crap from these guys, because I won't drive up to NYC for a get-together next month.
I see absolutely no reason to drive for 14 hours & spend hundreds on a hotel just to get drunk with some of my old Thailand pals.

The best part is the main instigator is the guy who caused me to sod off from there back in January.
I guess if it mattered enough, I'd drive up there & knock his block off

on another side note:

When I was physically in Thailand I'd go to the get-togethers & it was nice to meet the trolls face-to-face, because you usually got along fine IRL.

I would like to announce that I have just won the $758 Million Dollar Lottery, and after giving it some serious thought WILL be quitting TalkBass.

I'm going to start my OWN Bass-related Forum , using only the highest (and most expensive) technologies.

It will be called "Talk B-Line Bass) and I will be in charge of everything, as it should be.
Only posts that agree with my point of view will be allowed naturally, and there will be NO "OT"!

See? It happens.

I stopped visiting TB for about 7 years---this was during the height of the "Flea vs. Fieldy" war. It was a dark time---even so much as saying that you weren't a fan of either was enough to get you a warning about "spreading negativity" and "making offensive comments" about an artist (those are actual quotes from a warning I received from a mod at the time).
