Do people really quit talkbass?

I joined Talkbass in 2000 and retuning recently after almost a 5 year hiatus some (highly opinionated) observations are:
Not much of any real depth is being talked about.
If people would search before they asked questions the daily post would probably go down 40-60%. The noise to signal ratio is way outta whack.
Where some longtime mods have become very noticeably more jaded a couple have actually mellowed.
There's certainly no less arbitrary "make it up as you go" BS moderation. With 60,000 hits a day the management doesn't see there's much wrong.
It's still a good place to get technical questions answered...if you can stand the almost inevitable editorializing.
It's an excellent place to to deal gear.

It's telling is that a lot of the most experienced and best informed posters loose interest or get banned.

every so often i feel like people become way too uppity which causes mods to become way too infraction happy and then its just not a fun environment so i take breaks for a while (sometimes forced =D )

I don't get it. Talkbass is such a huge learning tool for so many, yet people still getting offended on here.

Realistically, this is the Internet. Grow some thicker skin. I've been on TB long enough (and post enough) that I've seen some real doozies. But it doesn't stop me from coming back (actually makes me wanna be a mod!!)

I was going to say the same, however I then thought, at some point the new accepted term will be used in the schoolyard enough that it will eventually not be accepted as PC; then what? It is not an improvement but merely a different way of saying the same thing that bleeding hearts have decided is better; it's all context.

Make no mistake, I wasn't poking at "challenged" people at all, just pointing out the stupidity of it all.

As far as "being modded", while I don't go out of my way to be a jerk or break rules, I'm also not one to sugarcoat things or not speak my mind out of fear. Life is too short.

TB is like home to me, so if people get offended and leave, that just means that I get the remote!!

In short I guess, who's gone - and why?

Yeah, I bet people do, why not? I can think of a few reasons myself to quit:

Quitters:
- have other things to do
- don't enjoy the site anymore
- are tired of "what's the best X for metal" threads
- are tired of how easily people here feel offended or brand others a troll gratuitiously
- are tired of being ignored
- don't feel like they want/ can contribute anymore
- are coerced into becoming supporting, paying members after a number of years (this is purely speculation)
- retire temporarily from internet forum-ing
- retire permanently from internet forum-ing
- decided to live a frugal, simplistic life overnight
- have been ridiculed by family/ friends/ peers for their online acivities to the point of breaking
- were committed and have no access to a computer
- are no longer interested in the bass, music or Geddy Lee
- and many more

Also, quitters:
- quit just because... no rational explanation exists as to why
- quit due to the combination of some or all of the above reasons

Ha! I'm back! Just got on one day during the holidays and nothing interesting was going on several days in a row, so I haven't logged back on in months.

Some of us are still around, but we no longer take part in discussion for whatever reason. Others don't visit near as often as we used to, for whatever reason. I love Talkbass, I have been here since 2000. But I grew tired of 'what bass is best for metal' and 'rosewood vs. maple', and don't participate that often any more. I have learned more about gear and theory from this place than any other place on the net. I
I will always be here, but I have other things higher on my priority list at the moment.

Been here since 2k as well. I left for various reasons, but I lurk and post from time to time. Others, like me, have been turned off by certain things and people. That, I won't go into. Also, sometimes, you just need a break.

It's funny because my first thought was that the OP made a pretty good show of taking a hiatus a few months back. Of course @Joe Nerve let everyone know the reason why, and of course he also slipped in a few times while on that hiatus to post and, who knows, to lurk. Many of the user names I recognize but fewer of the avatars. I don't know too many who have changed their names (I have, but it was more of a haircut than a rebranding.) So if someone knows where all the floweres have gone, long time passing...

One time I quit for six months without telling anybody. No one noticed. I guess half the fun of quitting is creating all that drama.
