I joined Talkbass in 2000 and retuning recently after almost a 5 year hiatus some (highly opinionated) observations are:
Not much of any real depth is being talked about.
If people would search before they asked questions the daily post would probably go down 40-60%. The noise to signal ratio is way outta whack.
Where some longtime mods have become very noticeably more jaded a couple have actually mellowed.
There's certainly no less arbitrary "make it up as you go" BS moderation. With 60,000 hits a day the management doesn't see there's much wrong.
It's still a good place to get technical questions answered...if you can stand the almost inevitable editorializing.
It's an excellent place to to deal gear.
It's telling is that a lot of the most experienced and best informed posters loose interest or get banned.
