I always wondered what happen to that dude that took everyone's money for a benefit cause (for another bass player that was having a rough time)...

There was a huge thread about it...I think Tom Bowlus got screwed in the deal as well..or something like that...

Was that the tour from hell thread from like 3 years ago?

Maybe the fact that youre here 9 months and im here 12 years has something to do with it.

I doubt it. Maybe you've invested too much in those 12 years to care about fellow random anonymous Internet users? I don't care who comes and goes to be honest, and I wouldn't expect anyone to care if I chose to move on, even if I had a join date from 12 years ago.

I don't remember...The dude that stiffed everyone set up some kind of fund where TBr's could donate money to help this guy out who was having a really rough time of it...IIRC, He was supposed to make sure this guy and his family got the money...and it went to hell in a handbasket. I don't think the guy ever got his money, etc...but I don't remember how it all ended...

If you don't care, then why are you posting in this thread? Exercising you right to be an *******? ;)

Like a lot of threads, it's just meaningless chit-chat. And like a lot of threads, people chip in all the time with with either a single post or countless dozens. Some hugely entertaining, some coma-inducingly dull. You don't have to 'care' to post...I had 5 minutes to kill, nothing more, nothing less.

I certainly would never assume some sort of superiority based on my join date, which some users seem to do, like the longer you've been here, the more valid and worthwhile your thoughts, feelings and opinions. Everyone was a 'noob' at some point, a bit like a learner driver.

Anyway, I wasn't looking to be argumentative or difficult, just asking a genuine question. I love it here on TB and enjoy the vast majority of the conversations. I may not be part of any of the myriad of cliques that exist here, but I don't lose any sleep over it.

The only right I was exercising was that of typing a message and pressing send. Trouble is, unlike in a pub, where conversations fly by at a rate of knots and you never remember everything you ever said, an Internet forum preserves those snapshots of your brain for all eternity to be picked at and pored over by individuals desperate to have the last word or come across as a master of oneupmanship.

I meant no offence and apologise if any was taken.

Peace :)

Lot of judgements in there. And a very obvious need to have the last word, dontcha think?

You questioned my post and i responded. The amount of time i mentioned has nothing to do with superiority, has to do with the fact that after interracting with people for a number of years here, their sudden disappearance can sometimes seem odd. The question was stirred by a post on another topic and took me about 2 minutes to start a thread about. Much less time than the arguments your getting involved in here right now.

Your turn... :)

Hey come on man, I'm not arguing. Take it easy....they weren't 'judgements', just perspectives. Feel free to disagree, but don't assume to know my intent. My bad if I have taken your posts out of context. And in hindsight I can see why you say what you say.

No probs. Cool? :)

Or just change their user names?

Seems strange to me that people would come here everyday for years and then suddenly just STOP. My memory sucks and I never remember anyone's user name anyhow, but I know there are countless people who used to post here all the time, and they just disappeared. Some got canned, some announced their done-ness with the site, others just vanished.

Anyhow, if you've changed, or know of any people who have changed their names over the past 10 years please fill me in. And if you have any thoughts on why people suddenly quit cold turkey after years with this addiction, share your thoughts on that too.

In short I guess, who's gone - and why?

Do not remember why but two names that popped into my head because they both declared they were leaving are Meeve and nortonrider...

I've gone on post break because I felt I didn't have anything to contribute but obviously I'm still here. I've left other forums because I lost interest, got sick of the fighting and flaming, and/or didn't mesh with that site's culture anymore.

So did quickie finally get the hammer?

IIRC he got a month ban and when he came back he was attacked on all fronts for his pessimistic, glass-half-empty attitude on most posts.

As one person said, people do die. I can think of about three Tb'ers off the top of my head that I know have died since I joined, and I know that many others have gone on also. I can also see people leaving out of loss of interest.

I have stopped posting on the Basses forum so much simply because I have really slowed down on bass purchasing and I am not GAS-ing as consistently. In fact, spending so much time on OT has nearly gotten me tossed from TB, although I admit that learning to click on report thread, instead of arguing has made my life simpler.:D

I miss a few old regulars here, but they have prolly gotten lives outside of the internets or something like that. Otherwise most of the people that have been here since I started posting are still here. OT has definitely rode the waves of many a meev type, and the conversations and subject matter are waaaaaaay different than they used to be. I can remember when the stereotype threads were just starting, and we were still all hooked on pork n beans, asian chicks, and snuggies.
