Do people really quit talkbass?

Mutedeity acted like he "really knew his theory" by angrily insisting that what he said was right and what everyone else said was wrong. He'd freak out if anyone -even another person who knows theory- would contradict him. If he's not around any more, then that's a good thing for people who actually want to learn.

I just got put in the same category as Meeve. Man........ that sucks!

Yeah, I left and just recently started posting again, here's my story:

In the past couple of years, 3 close friends of ours got very sick - cancer. After seeing how much it changed their lives, it woke us up to the realities of life, our mortality, our goals, etc.... After examining what was really important and what we wanted to get out of this life, our priorities changed. This "awakening" put me in a funk (seeing where I was and where I wanted to be). It affected my attitude - I took out this frustration pretty much on everyone.

Being bummed out, one past thread just here pushed me over the edge with its selective censorship and PC agenda. I had enough and walked.

I not only left this site, I also left my band, quit my job (my ol'lady quit hers too), sold our house and all of the crap in it, put our personal stuff in storage, and hit the road on my motorcycle.
We needed an adventure, to shake thing up in our lives, and that's what we did! Dropped out of the rat race and just explored.
We spent 11 months and 88,000 miles traveling around the USA. We had a trip to remember and were able to clear our heads, break out of the rut of everyday life and put things in perspective.

Now that we have landed, I've gotten back into music with even more passion, broke out my old gear, and found my way back to TB.

Stuck in the day to day routine called life?
It's amazing what a reboot of your life will do for your attitude...... I suggest that you all try it.

That's the how and why I left and returned to TalkBass.
As for Meeve - I have no idea.

That's great!

Wish I could have done something similar last year when I had a real tough time. I'll spare you the details. I'm a lot better now but I still put the pieces together. I wish I could had a proper "reboot" though.

One of the many things resulting that is I asked to be removed from TB back then. I just registered again last month.

I'm not a pro, do not have a band, I'm still a beginner but music is a serious hobby that helped me a lot coping with my situation. So that's one reason...

Nah, they post asking what's the absolute best bass for under $300, or they ask how to fix a problem, or setup on their bass. Then, they lurk or otherwise fade away without ever really trying to offer assistance...

I changed my name, cuz I can't keep my mouth shut.. so.. you know.. wouldn't want possible employers knowing all of my little secrets, eh? But yah.. I often disappear because I just don't find anything interesting to post about here, or life just gets in the way, .. oh and the occasional break from the internet. That happens, too.

I doubt it. Maybe you've invested too much in those 12 years to care about fellow random anonymous Internet users? I don't care who comes and goes to be honest, and I wouldn't expect anyone to care if I chose to move on, even if I had a join date from 12 years ago.

In 12 years time, even on the internet, people tend to make friends and aquaintences. When those people are no longer around, one tends to wonder where they went, and/or why.

Yeah I get it. I realise now how I completely misinterpreted the OP, for which I have apologised.

And after some thought, the idea that statistically there are bound to be some TB'ers that have died, I found it quite sad...the thought that your TB account hangs around in the ether whilst your material world just ends. Weird. And a tad creepy.

How about DeluxeRed? The guy who got bassists fired just by the power of his pure awesomeness?

I'm still disappointed that his original thread bragging about the feat has been moved to the Lounge where we plebians can't view it. The sequel is still here, though; I think it's in the Band Management forum.

...been posting here for 11 years, I guess I have no excuse for lacking a premium membership. :hiding:

I do miss Peter McFerrin, though. He is the originator of our "smug" smilie. Here's a 21 smug to you, Pmac.

:smug: :smug: :smug: :smug: :smug: :smug: :smug: :smug: :smug: :smug: :smug: :smug: :smug: :smug: :smug: :smug: :smug: :smug: :smug: :smug: :smug:

Makes me wonder if there is an amount of time, inactivity-wise, before a mod or admin deletes an inactive account?

Why does it seem odd to you for me to wonder where some people have disappeared to? About that im genuinely curious. :)
It's a rare user who is more than just negligible content.

On any forum, there are rarely more than a half-dozen people who really know what they're talking about, and these tend to abruptly leave when they get fed up with the aggressive ignorance of the people they're trying to help. No mystery where they go or why. A nationally-known gear author I know lasted about two weeks before he quietly left in disgust when he realized how ineducable the users were (and they almost all are). I split for a year or so a couple of times when it got really bad.

Almost the only knowledgeable ones who stay are those who are selling something.

I'm here to scout deals and to maybe help the 1% or 2% who can be helped -- and as best I can ignore the ignoroids who hate knowledge. Occasionally I learn something. That's cool with me. Sigs and avatars are turned off, I hit the subjects, I move on.

I'm not interested in personalities as such. I'm interested in data.
