Do people really quit talkbass?

Have you stopped posting in there because you have stopped buying basses.

Or, have you stopped buying basses because you've stopped posting there?

I certainly fall into the latter camp!

I'm not sure. I recently sold a bass at a small profit and bought a screaming deal, and posted about how much I like that bass, but that had been the first time in a while. What I found is that once I bought that bass, I showed it to some friends at local shops where I saw some cool new basses, and GAS flared up again. I guess that staying away does keep the GAS down for me.:)

Some forums I stopped going to because of the attitude of the members. Some forums I stopped going to because my interests have focused elsewhere. However, even when I'm not interested on talking about music or bass gear, TB remains a regular part of my online diet simply becuase of the regular flock of babbling idiots in OT. For lack of a better term, it feels like "home".

AHAHAHAAH!

Quitting is for quitters... I never quit anything in my life... only stopped it.

Quitting implies that i will never do it again
Stopping implies that i won't do it, but if i feel like it i can start it back up whenever i feel like it.

Quitters are just lying to themselves.

i don't know how intentionally i stopped coming here, but i did for most of this year. sort of like my relationship to t.v., i slipped out of the habit and then just settled into a new normal. maybe a couple of incidental factors were leaving the country for a few weeks, thus breaking my daily habit; having a busy work/gigging summer; being single, thus focusing my attention on my social life and getting sucked into fb much more than tb.

now i seem to only pop over only once in a while, drop a comment on a thread, and go back to my busy realtime life. i am comfortable with the idea that y'all can cover babbling in ot without me! maybe i will try to dump my verbosity back on you guys for a while; the folks down at my local pub may appreciate the break...

Do not remember why but two names that popped into my head because they both declared they were leaving are Meeve and nortonrider...
I just got put in the same category as Meeve. Man........ that sucks!

Yeah, I left and just recently started posting again, here's my story:

In the past couple of years, 3 close friends of ours got very sick - cancer. After seeing how much it changed their lives, it woke us up to the realities of life, our mortality, our goals, etc.... After examining what was really important and what we wanted to get out of this life, our priorities changed. This "awakening" put me in a funk (seeing where I was and where I wanted to be). It affected my attitude - I took out this frustration pretty much on everyone.

Being bummed out, one past thread just here pushed me over the edge with its selective censorship and PC agenda. I had enough and walked.

I not only left this site, I also left my band, quit my job (my ol'lady quit hers too), sold our house and all of the crap in it, put our personal stuff in storage, and hit the road on my motorcycle.
We needed an adventure, to shake thing up in our lives, and that's what we did! Dropped out of the rat race and just explored.
We spent 11 months and 88,000 miles traveling around the USA. We had a trip to remember and were able to clear our heads, break out of the rut of everyday life and put things in perspective.

Now that we have landed, I've gotten back into music with even more passion, broke out my old gear, and found my way back to TB.

Stuck in the day to day routine called life?
It's amazing what a reboot of your life will do for your attitude...... I suggest that you all try it.

That's the how and why I left and returned to TalkBass.
As for Meeve - I have no idea.

I miss Nickthebassist... it was so much fun to hear the great stories of all his awesome basses his dad bought him..... uhhh.. well, at least it was funny... :rollno:

I used to post a lot under different username (Reverend G-Money) quite a few years back, but i lost some work and money to pay for internet service was not quite as important as putting food in my mouth. When i came back to normal i had lost my old hotmail account from lack of use so i couldn't log in under my old username. Never got around to becoming a supporting member, but i'm going to be changing that before the end of the year.

As a side note, any one remember Bassnutz.com? I know Thor used to post there, and a couple others did too.. miss that site.. for those who didn't use it, it was......slighty more "edgy" as a bass forum...

Pete McFerrin, Dave Castelo, Mike Money, and Matt Till immediately come to mind. Then there was the Polly fake suicide!
I liked Matt Till a lot too. Kinda quirky taste in music and knowledgeable. I think he got tired of fighting over opinions.
Also was a GREAT guy in General Instruction for a little while named Mutedeity. Really knew his theory. I learn[ed] a lot for him & Havic.

Still lovin' the blue Sterling, Baba!! :hyper:
