Do you call your bass a guitar?

I agree - it's not rational, really, since it IS a "Bass Guitar"... but I just call it a "Bass" and stick to that.

its actually a guitar. a bass guitar. the 6 string is called a tenor guitar. just like a bass clarinet or alto clarinet. its the same instrument in a different octave. johnny a.

I agree with your sentiment, but a tenor guitar is a specific instrument. It has 4 strings and is tuned in fifths like a mandolin. They are pretty sweet. My friend owns one that previously belonged to Frank Black of The Pixies

i used to feel like that, untill i started really playing classical music. now i think of my electric bass (still my main instrument) as a bass guitar a lot more. i still call it an electric bass, though.

its really not an insult. its a bass guitar. just like a baritone sax, most guys will call it their barry, but if they call it a sax i wont hurt them.

I usually say I play bass, or the bass is too quiet, but oddly about 1/4 of the time when I refer directly to *my bass* I do call it a guitar- "hand me my guitar- hey don't knock over my guitar!" Strange now that I think about it, but a rose by any other name...

An electric bass is not a guitar. It is a bass guitar, and that's what it was designed to be.

I refer to mine either as basses, or as bass guitars.

Actually the technical term is Electric bass. A bass guitar is something totally different, acoustic and I believe was from mexican origins.

If someone asks if I play the guitar, my answer is no. I don't think of myself as a guitar player, and, musically speaking, I don't think or play like a guitar player.
