Do drink tap water? Do you know where your local water comes from?
Around here our water contains flouride and chloromide. It also has trace amounts of lead and other minerals not in high enough concentration to cause me concern. The city monitors the quality constantly.
I have replaced most of the old plumbing in my home with copper but there are a few places where I didn't have acess. So that is a minor concern. I also realize that no system is flawless so it is possible that contamanints may get into our water system.
For that reason I use a carbon block filter for my drinking water at home. This filter system is not perfect either but it is one more level of protection. Plus the water tastes better. I will drink tap water when I am out . I don't like drinking bottled water so sometimes I carry a stainless steel bottle filled with water from my home.
Most of our water comes from soil runnoff from the snowpack in the Sierra Mountains. It is collected in the Hetch Hetchy reseviour north of Yosemite. I think it is a good idea to know the source of my water.

I drink MY tap water, it comes straight from the ground... from a WELL. No city water here :)

The tap water here is a goodly amount of hexavalent chromium...in fact, it has the highest amount measured of any of the cities tested in 2007.

So that's fun. I filter my water.
Chromium 6 is nasty stuff HaMMerHeD, change those filters 2x a year. Ever heard of Erin Brokovich? That's what she was fighting.

Yes I do. And, I know exactly where it comes from, and also how it's treated, coming from and going back to Lake Mead. I helped build/ upgrade the local waste treatment and purification plants. I have no problem with the tapwater here; I've drunk lots worse water in lots of places, including water that was so bad that our air-mobile reverse osmosis treatment unit couldn't make it really potable. Had no choice; drank it anyway. And lived to tell about it. Personally, I can't stand the taste of bottled water; it tastes like a tin can to me. We have it at work, and I drink it 'cause it's cold, but I usually mix it 50-50 with tap water. Every drop of water on the planet is just recycled dinosaur piss, anyway....:D

I live in British Columbia Canada. I drink the best tap water in the world.

I can't stand it when traveling though...

Big +1 on that. Mountain water is the best. BC and AB water mostly comes from there! Except maybe where the bow and elbow run but they source from the mountains too. Not quite as perfect as freshly melted snow over rocks at lake Louise.

When I went to Florida I took a sip of water from a fountain and nearly died, so I went and bought some bottled water.
