Do you find natural finish ugly?

Yes I find it ugly, and I'm relieved to see a that I'm not alone. That being said, my taste in bass and finish is HATED by most as well... I'm sure much more so than natural. Clearly this is THE subjective topic... But I'm just letting you know, that yes there are others, and yes it's okay, and not a sacrilege to dislike natural.

I do love wood grain... just not natural. I have many colored transparent and bursts.

I play Fender American Standards, and I personally wouldn't even take a natural for free, unless I planned to refinish it.

But as all have noted, the choice is yours, so air brush Macaulay Culkin on it if you like, and never again tread the dangerous waters of asking an opinion on TB! Or.... at least have a good hiding spot.

I like natural finishes only if it's mahogany or walnut. Everything else looks like cheap, slab sawn construction/framing lumber. Even worse are the spalted that look like rot or mold has set in. Yuck.

I used to have a nice ‘96 EBMM with a natural satin finish. I played it a long time. It looked just like the one posted above this post. None of my basses have a natural finish now. I’m not really into them as much anymore. I like a nitro paint finish these days, personally.

Au Naturale, 'cept for the Squire VM fretless, but it's a burst so I guess it's sorta naturale. The custom on the left is a testament to natural as tongue oil is it's only finish

I don't find them all "ugly", but I do find every last one of them unappealing to me, and pretty much all Fender style in natural finish is ugly to me.

This is kind of funny to me. I had a Natural/maple '75 P-Bass that I loved. Then in 2000, I saw an American Vintage '75 Reissue Jazz in a Fender catalog (Natural/maple/black blocks). To me, it was one of the most beautiful basses I'd ever seen. So I ordered and bought one new from Yarbrough's Music in Memphis. If I'm not mistaken 2000 was the 2nd year these were offered. I LOVED that bass. Great workmanship, killer tone, and just awesome all-around. It was my go-to for about 7 years or more.

I still have it, but I have so many basses that this one sits in the case most of the time. These days, I'm just not as fond of the aesthetic look as I used to be. It still gets lots of compliments when I play it out, and a lot of folks think it's quite beautiful. My point is that for ME, my love of the look has changed over the past 18 years. But that's not unusual for me. I'm always "falling in love" with new basses...

i think "natural" is a great look. i think black black black black is better...



i'm just saying that: i like all colors, all NBD's, all mods, and all homemade solutions to pump up the 'the look' or to make an instrument 'a player'!
