Do you gig with only a 112?

I have a GK700rbII, Classic Rock, 5 piece(inst)+lead singer,yes i always DI. I have a 212 and a 112, but I am finding that the 112 works just fine for me since we have our our decent PA

4 pieces up to 50 member choir and orchestra

Yep - a rig that size basically serves as an overglorified bass monitor, and doesn't provide the bulk of sound reinforcement in a big venue. I can do a moderate volume gig with this rig with no PA support, but I'd prefer to have it if it's an option.

I gigged last Friday (Hallowe'en dance) with just my Markbass 121p 1-12" combo (300 watts) DIed into the PA. It was loud enough on stage, but I wasn't happy with the tone. I like more depth. I usually use that combo with a Markbass 121H extension speaker and have been totally happy with that setup (2-12s with 500 watts at 4 ohms) and I will go back to that mini-rig. It has served me perfectly on all sized of stages, indoor and outdoors. In fact, my band is opening for Papa Roach tomorrow (Monday) to a sold out crowd. I'll be using my Markbass mini-rig for that show. Nervous about the gig - Yup! Nervous about the mini-rig - not at all. But I won't be using just the 121p combo on its own anymore unless it is a very small gig without a drummer. I think you need more than a 112 to be happy and covered, no matter what head or cab - or at least, I do.

I have gigged many times with a Markbass Mini CMD121P, but I just boxed it up to go to Canada tomorrow so it looks like my 112 days are over for now. Still got my LMII, though...and I'll be keeping that. Not selling it for any other reason but needing a little extra cash...it's a wonderful combo.

Anyway:

A. Already answered

B. Mostly 50's, 60's and 70's variety, but occasionally some new stuff and some jazz.

C. Anywhere from 5 to 10 pieces, including horns.

D. Sometimes I DI'd, sometimes I mic'ed, sometimes I just cranked it and let it wail. It was great for small to midsize rooms with just stage volume, but I've unknowingly carried a 700 seat sold out theater with stage volume and it sounded really good there, too, if a tiny bit thin.

a. Thunderfunk 550 on a Mesa walkabout 12" cab
b. Contemporary Christian music.
c. usually, 2 lead vocal(M, F), 1 background vocal, 2 acoustic, electric, keyboard, bass, drum.
d. no DI, the acoustics are great(indoors).

I use a 2x12 and a 1x15, both by Behringer. I honestly wish I would have saved my money for a higher quality 1x12 or 2x12. The cabinets are heavy and take up a lot of valuable space. They do sound pretty decent, and I was young and a bit...less learned...then.

I use a DB112 and Shuttle 6.0.
I play in a few bands which are 4-5 piece pop/rock/acoustic (no Marshall stacks) and one band that is 60s 70s funk based with brass section. I always play with PA support so volume is no problem.

Playing with the 1 box at higher volumes works OK but I can tell that it would be better with the second bin. The convenience factor is fantastic. I love picking up and walking out in one trip- so even if I had a second cab I wouldn't always use it..

We gigged last Saturday night at the same bar we usually play at on monthly basis. Capacity is 100 people. The last couple of gigs I brought my full stack (AE112/HS210) which is complete overkill for the room, but I love the tone. After a couple of sets, our lead guitar player and I were chatting and he said that although he loves the tone, it really fills the room.....so much so that he's having trouble competing with the cab he likes to play. He's admittedly over sensitive to stuff like this, but I knew in this instance that he was right. So I just used my AE112 for our third set and it was perfect for the rest of the evening.

What I've discovered the last few months is that there will be very few gig situations where I will actually need two cabs. It's good for me because all I have to do is carry my bass in one hand, my 30 lb cab in the other, and the LMII with cables etc. in my backpack.

I should note that when I play pop music, it is with bands that are deliberately trying to hold the volume down.

I use a 1 x 12 combo at small gigs, it is D.I.'d but is loud enough to be heard and what comes out of the P.A. is only re-inforcement.


1. Line 6 Lowdown LD150.

2. Rock, Pop & Soul covers.

3. 5 piece band.

4. Amp is DI'd .


I really like 12" speakers for bass and can't understand why they are not more popular?

Does anyone make a 2 x 12" combo????


Incidentally, this little amp with its 12" speaker (and no horn) is the very first bass cab I've ever had in the 30 years that I have been gigging where a Music CD played through it sounds half decent!

Yes, an Avatar 112 (Delta, non neo, so 500 watts at 4 Ohms), and a G-K 700 RBII. I *do* DI sometimes, usually when we are playing larger or more packed venues, but really only for sound reinforcement and to get the volume of my amp off the stage, so I'm not drowning everyone out onstage and feeding in though the microphones. For smaller places, I do not DI.

Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 and 112 NeoX cab, with DI for my 7 piece horn band. Gives great stage presence, and the PA fills the area we need to cover. Played an outdoor gig Thursday night with that rig.
We play everything from big band to Beatles to Tower of Power to Stevie Ray Vaughan with a little country and disco blended in..... I guess about all we miss is polka!!!

For a while I gigged with a 1x12 and a 1x15, but one time the 1x15 just gave up on me and I had to use the 1x12 on its own, I thought it was going to sound crap but was pleasantly surprised, it filled the medium sized room perfectly and sounded nice and balanced. I would have liked a little more low end, but it did well!

Not had the shuttle up past 12 o'clock yet and it normally stays around 11 ish. Plenty of thump for what i need and as we don't have FOH thats a bonus!
