I'm going to be starting my first build soon.

It'll be a conventional Precision, though. Fender headstock and everything. I'll be using the pots and pups from a 1980 pre-Dallas Schecter precision.

However, after that build, I'll be building my girlfriend a Kittycaster. A small scale pink guitar with a Hello Kitty pickguard. That unconventional enough?

twenty-something years ago when I worked in a millworking shop I built a bass using the neck & bridge from a Rickenbacker 3001. I built a body from 8/4 Eastern Rock Maple with a 1/4" cap of Padauk, shaped more-or-less like a Modulus Quantum but thinner and with steeper bullnosing on the edges. Added a Bill Lawrence dual-blade humbucker in the P-bass spot, and a Bartolini 6S pickup in the foam mute compartment from the Rick bridge. The only control was a single blend knob. Output jack on the side.

Unfortunately, I left the bass at a friend's house shortly before he went through a rather contentious divorce, so I have no idea what became of that instrument & I don't have any pics.

My first build: I made the body from a 1.75" slab of Alder and the rest of it came from spare stuff lying around. Spare SX neck, and I reshaped the headstock to a 3+1. The bridge (mid) pickup is an EB-0 and the neck pickup is from a Telebass. It's pretty muddy, but it has a very unique thump when you dork with the EQ.

Built a 4 string, short scale bass that kinda resembles an Alembic Model 1 in high school woodshop. Still have it but don't have pics. One of these days I plan to do some work on it and get it back to playing condition.
