Do you guys ever get GAS to buy a guitar?

Yeah i recently acquired two low-end guitars for free. They need strings and a setup. However, I kinda want to jump in with a nice American guitar.

I drove past a yard sale a couple of weeks ago and saw an early-80's Aria guitar for $100 and I bought it because I have played bass and percussion exclusively for almost 30 years.

Unfortunately, I loathe the thing and have only tried to play it two or three times. I was able to become proficient at bass guitar on my own, but I'm going to need lessons to learn how to rock this tiny little guitar. I don't see myself falling in love with it.

Don't get me wrong, this is a REALLY nice guitar. It's just.... not a bass.

I just remembered that someone once gave me an old 70's Telecaster for helping them move. It sat around unplayed and collecting dust for 10 years before I put it on eBay, where it eventually sold for $2500. I should have kept that one, but I just hated it so much.

I have 4 guitars. I bought the first one because I blew a disk in my neck which caused severe numbness in my right index finger. The idea was to train myself how to play with a pick. Didn't work. Two of the other guitars were gifts. I won the last one (thanks again, D'Addario!). The numbness has improved but is still there. I can feel pressure but have some issues with texture.

I do have some mild GAS for a Strat and a T-60 to match my T-40, just to have.

I'm a bass player through and through. I've been playing for about 22 years. However, I have all the gear I need and I have been gettin black Friday ads and I'm kinda GASing for an American Stratocaster. Has anyone here started out on bass and then picked up guitar? Does it take a long time to get decent at it? I kinda want to learn surf rock. I love those chords they play.

I wouldn't mind having one for writing purposes, and at one point I did have a cheap Strat for that purpose but had to sell it, along with all my excess gear, about a decade ago. Still, I wouldn't say I'm GASing for one, but it would be nice to have. Maybe one more bass in my stable and then I'll think about a guitar.

I started on bass and remain a bass player but I have owned a guitar here and there just for song writing purposes. Never had a guitar amp, I used the sans amp gt2 or a pod as I didn't need anything fancy just for writing. Some of our bands material is written from random jamming but some our stuff is from me sitting at home working out parts, coming up with chord progressions which our drummer and guitar player take and then change the rhythm up to make it better. . I mainly use keys for this though and don't currently own a lil guitar. I've only played lil guitar onstage once in my life and that was an acoustic duo one time thing for fun. If I got another it would probably be an acoustic so I wouldn't need additional gear.

The pair I'd run back for in a fire (after a first escape to save a pair of Precisions), would be this duo, both born in 1979. The model is "Genesis" by Epiphone. I paid $350 and $300 for these respectively on the used market, and they are very versatile due to a coil tap that lets you switch from humbucker to single coil.

No more need to overpay for a guitar than there is to pay too much for a bass, OP -- you can find killer axes on Craigslist every day for two or three C notes.

I gas for certain guitars from time to time. I started out on guitar. Not many though. I'd love to have an Explorer or a V. Been playing my Tele for 20yrs and recently got a Hofner Shorty to play around on. Other than that I'm good on guitar gas.

Yes, every time I see and hear an es175 (love the florentine cutaway) or the Gretsch Electromatic that my band leader some times plays. I sometimes think I'd like a strat and a tele to go with my Les Paul. But given limited budget and even more limited time, there's at least two basses and an electronic drum set in line ahead of any guitars.

Funny you mention this... in an attempt to get away from the in-laws yesterday, I snuck down the road to a guitar shop. The guy is a Schecter dealer and had a USA custom shop Strat with a solid walnut body.
This big, chubby blues guy came in and played it and my jaw dropped at the tones coming out of that thing. Aside from the great playing, it was easily the best soumding guitar I've ever heard and I want to buy it

Some other guy came to the shop and brought one of his vintage fender strats with some unknown color that was discontinued... said Schecter guitars are way underrated and has bought 5 of them and talked about not even playing his other 20 guitars anymore. Seemed like an intense crowd in there
