Do you guys ever get GAS to buy a guitar?

To the extent that I think of myself as a musician at all, I think of myself as a musician first and then a bassist. Bass is the instrument that I love most of those I have ever put any real effort into. There are several others that I am attracted to however, although I will probably never try to play any of them given that I am a pretty old dog to be learning new tricks. At least new tricks that don't involve a bass guitar! So, it is very unlikely that I would ever GAS for a guitar as a guitar, but as a bass? Sure! I picked up a Squier VI shortly after they came out, quickly enough to have been on a waiting list for three months in fact. Some would say those are guitars and they have a point. It basically is a guitar in everything except tuning and scale length. I kinda like mine. I kinda GAS already for another "guitar bass". Either a purpose built bass VI or a baritone guitar with a bass-like deep tuning or an actual guitar with a long scale conversion neck grated on. Probably won't ever happen but a 30 inch Strat and a 30 inch Tele would go nicely with my Squier VI....

Not exactly GAS. I'll probably pick up a cheap used acoustic guitar somewhere down the road. But I'm not in a hurry since there isn't much you can't do on a bass that you can do on a guitar from a compositional standpoint. Though that probably goes for many melodic instruments to a certain extent. I'd be REALLY interested in getting a Moog synth though...

Yes(but not for myself) if I see a CHEAP guitar that either of our guitarists would not buy for themselves and it either adds to the band stage visual or is one they want but didn't buy AND a birthday or Christmas is near.

Examples:
Although it's a pain in the back & shoulder, I got a cheapo clear acrylic bass. Tons of compliments from band and audience. So both guitarists got one last year for Christmas(Les Paul clone and Strat clone).

A Galveston flag bass came here for about $260 about 4 years ago. Light, sounds great, plays great(after a bit of work). Excellent for long gigs towards the end of the gig and at 4th of July, Flag Day, etc. Found the guitar version and got it for one guitarist and then found a cheapo USA-shaped flag guitar for our other guitarist(he set it up for slide guitar, screaming pickups for some reason).

PS:
They both got cheapo SG clones(gold metallic like Gibson's Les Paul for one and white for the other) last year. The white one gets brought by that guitarist instead of bringing his 1972 SG. He gets a VERY CHEAP but 1950's detail-following Telecaster(he likes Brad Paisley's work) but no B-bender($1200 and up, no way) this year for Christmas. I'll tell him if he wants a B-bender one, he'll have to buy one.

Yes, I started with piano added trombone and bass. Then I picked up a little mandolin. Still suck at mando and dropped the trombone when I Picked up the tuba and dropped that as well once I left the school band. Then I started playing guitar and drums. So now I have keys drums bass and guitar. I'm no shredder but I can get by on rhythm and lead if it's dire. I still think like a simple bassist though. So I can build a bass part but not a guitar one if I'm writing. I can do covers though.

All this to say, if you wanna play it, do it. It's a fun thing on the side and if you're a home musician like me. I'm in a time in my life where my primary focus is school so a band is out of the question. But once in a while I can hold my own at a jam session.

I'm a bassist, 100%, but I have also played guitar for a long time and am a fairly proficient player.

I gassed for guitars enough to end up with a pretty big guitar collection and, lately, I've been selling a lot of them off because I devote so much more of my time to bass I feel the guitars would be better served in the hands of people who would play them more.

Long ago I played some keyboard. I still got a full size Yamaha keyboard, but I hardly use it. Guitars are a different story. Every now and then I grab one of my son's guitars and play a while. Yeah, I know how to play chords. I can do some tapping too, but it simply isn't the instrument of my choice. So no guitar GAS for me.

I started playing guitar in the mid 60's. I started playing bass in '69, when I realized I could be in better bands. I always kept a guitar around for noodling, because you never know when you have to show your guitarist how to play certain passages. That said, I am just finishing a Strat build, a reproduction of the mid 70's Strat I had and foolishly traded away.

The last guitar I bought was that Stratacoustic, used, for $100.00 not too long ago. I just upgraded to a neck with a maple fretboard. I really enjoy playing it.
