Do you have an phobias?

Your odds of crashing at 70 MPH in a car are much higher than crashing in a plane.

Again, the odds makers don't figure into the phobia. The potential does. As was already mentioned. I'm 50 years on this planet and have never been in an accident or received a ticket. I've never crashed in a plane either. Things I've also never crashed are a goat, a kvlt party or a frowners anonymous meeting.

When is the last time two planes bumped into eachother in flight and the pilots got out and exchanged insurance information ?

When I crash at 70 mph my odds of surviving are significantly better than my odds of plummeting 30k feet @ 300+ mph. It's not the odds makers that determine a phobia, it's the idea of the incident.
Well, by definition, phobias are irrational so I guess that qualifies as a phobia.

"When I crash at 70 mph my odds of surviving are significantly better than my odds of plummeting 30k feet @ 300+ mph."
People tell themselves that but reality is: you either live or you die.
This idea of odds is erroneous too. The variables in play at any second during a day in our lives are too numerous for us to factor in (and many if them are unknown anyway) so the argument of odds is fantasy. AEB the fact that 235 people on a plane can land safely at O'Hare Airport while 1 person dies in a car crash. Hence, phobias are irrational.

But...they are fun to talk about and read about.

My phobia is a home invader.

Yeah, I know, highly unlikely but the idea freaks me out a lot. I read stories of guys like the BTK killer and watch Forensic Files and shows like that. (Maybe I should stop doing that)

Then to top it off, I work in a maximum security prison full of robbers, rapists, murderers, serial killers, gang bangers, etc.

This irrational phobia is bad enough that effects my life and my habits. I have guns around the house, 2 large dogs, alarm systems, outdoor lighting, I check all my locks, I search every room and closet when I come home, I've studied martial arts, I've been into serious bodybuilding, etc.

All of that to prepare for the fight that will probably never happen.

Actually, now that I'm talking about it openly, it's pretty embarrassing. I sound like a paranoid nut! LOL!

Well, that's my phobia.
Someone coming in when I'm home...or worse...sneaking in and waiting for me to come home.

I have been on some pretty bumpy rides and once was on a plane that hit an air pocket or something and we dropped real quickly. If felt like we were in free fall and people screamed on the plane. It only lasted a few seconds but it seemed like an eternity. I am not comfortable with those things and I am not sure if anyone is.
I have gotten past the point were I get nervous at the slightest turbulence. I have forced myself to get on the planes not matter how afraid I am. Over time and several very long flights I have gotten better. Prayer also helped. :)

Claustrophobia. I start sweating just at the idea of having to be in a confined space or even watching someone else in a confined space. I had to get an MRI years ago, before the open-MRI technology was widespread, that was one of the most horrifying experiences in my life.

Same thing exactly. I had no idea i was claustrophobic until I went for an MRI. They put me in that tube and I've never know terror like that before. Couldn't do it. Found a place where their MRI machine had the open sides (it was still only about 2 inches from my face) and I had to take 2 valiums to calm me down.

I can't even watch the scene in "Kill Bill" when she's trying to get out of the coffin. Scares me to no end. In 2006 I took a flight out to Arizona and I could feel that "trapped" feeling coming on, but I made it.

Nearly empty coffee pots. Is it mud in there? Is there enough for an entire cup? Is it equal parts grounds?
That is a lot of anxiety wrapped in a morning necessity.

Real world problems... and the coffee is free here at work..... still.
How about the people who leave just enough to cover the bottom and don't make any more because there is "some left?"

I wouldn't call those phobias. Phobias are irrational fears.

Your fears have logic, common sense, and natural consequences involved.

I have similar fears. Being trapped without escape is a natural fear; even animals have that. Being trapped and having to rely on the kindness of your fellow man--who you know is full of mischief, selfish ambition, and evil motives--is logical. Fear of heights in a challenging environment or unstable surface is natural; even animals have that fear.
