Do you like driving barefoot ?

Don't any of you read the other posts before posting? It's not illegal anywhere in the states. Urban myth. And there's no reason it would be dangerous. That's idiotic.

Plus it's very comfortable. :D I don't know why some of you say it's painful.

My dad used to argue and argue with me about the legality of barefoot driving. He insisted it was illegaly, and I knew perfectly well, 'cause I asked a cop. He was giving me a speeding ticket (I was 17), and I asked about my bare feet. "Nope, can't ticket you for that. But slow down, ok?"

Cherie :)

When I used to own a manual trans car, I found that the clutch pedal made my left foot hurt. But I've had only automatics for years, so I sometimes take my left shoe off. I prefer to have a shoe, or at least a sandal, on my brake-stomping foot. I never wear flipflops, but if I did, I wouldn't drive with them on.

With my 14 wides I feel like I cant feel whats going on down there. :help:

Hmm, I wear 15s-16s and don't have that problem, what do you drive? A Geo metro?

Dont worry about it its not what its all cracked up to be , the socks are harder to find. ;) :D

Oh god yes, Socks are pain in the ass, shoes are better but not by much... Online FTW... I don't think i'd survive back in Russia. :)

just wait until your flip-flop gets caught and you can't get the brakes on in time when that child runs out in front of you...

you'll feel pretty sick afterwards...

Holy crap man, wth???

Happened to a friend on mine some twenty years ago... he lost his marbles a few years ago and took his own life... he couldn't live with the guilt.

No i understand, just, it can happen with anything, accidents happen. Several times i almost got into accident for same reason MM said, feet are too big. I don't wear flip flops, so i can't say if it is as dangerous as you make it out to be, just seems to me too harsh.

I am sorry for your buddy though, didn't even think about that actually happening, but as i said, stuff like that can happen with anything really...

It is actually illegal here in Ontario, but I do it all the time. I find it more comfortable, manual or automatic, and I know for a fact that it is safer than wearing my birks.

edit: Actually, I can't seem to find anything stating that is is illegal, though I'm positive I've seen something before. Regardless, I'm not going to change my ways.

I don't know about the legality as the above Ontarian mentioned, but I do it at least 4 days a week. My gym shoes are "barefoot" shoes (Nike Frees) so I wear flip flops to and from the gym and kick off the right one when I'm driving.

Otherwise I'm almost always wearing shoes, and there's no way in hell I'm undoing a double knot and taking off my shoe and sock just to drive barefoot :p.

I have done it a couple of times but after having driven for so long with 1"+ thick soles I never really got used to it. I like to rest my heel on the floor and pivot to operate the pedals. With shoes on, the ball of my foot reaches the pedal perfectly but barefoot, my foot isn't long enough and I'm essentially braking with my toes, which isn't very comfortable.

On top of that I usually have to adjust my seat to compensate for the lack of sole and it's just too much of a nuisance. If I'm wearing flip-flops I just drive with them on.
