passive basses sound better to my ears. Plus, I already have too many things to think about, stress about and/or remember to worry aboutwithout buying and changing batteries all the time. Also, dead batteries ain't so good for the environment.

1 battery in a year's time, max.... usually way longer if you unplug the bass and aren't playing a lot. Batteries themselves have shelf lives of years. So it's not something you do 'all the time.' People use up more batteries in a given year swapping them out in their smoke detectors.... or you SHOULD anyways.:thumbsdown:

Still ... it boggles my mind why we aren't moving more quickly toward rechargeable batteries wherever possible, or at least reasonably possible.

I don't really like their tone, they're heavy, they have knobs that I'll rarely mess with and they're more expensive. Whats to like?
:p

Truly, both. Fender P, Ric 4001, fretless Ripper - passive.
Jackson Concert Pro V, EBMM Sterling - active.

Use 'em all all the time. The Ric doesn't get much playtime anymore
Right now the Jackson gettin' a lot of play for orig pop band,
P gettin' a lot of play for oldies cover band.
Ripper gets played every morning.
