Do You Prefer 4 String, 5 String, 6 String?

I've always used a four string bass but have wondered if its time to move to 5 string? Or Even A 6 String? But in many ways i just see a 6th string bass as just another guitar! I was also curious if anyone prefers a certrain string bass and why?

All of my basses are 5 strings ... it is what i am used to. But a 4 or a 6 will also get the job done.

Strictly fours these days. I've played fivers briefly, but just never really made a connection with a five stringer that I have with my fours.

Ive been using a 4 string, never really tried anything else. Seems like 5 or 6 string basses are too big and the necks seem wide enough to be a pain to play

I'm in a mostly-four-banger phase but like- and have 4, 5 & 6ers. The 6 is great for noodling, working out stuff or wanking and/or sketching out song ideas w/a looper, 4's are great like a skateboard or BMX bike- just simple and easy. The 5 is for me a nice balance between the two.

A 6 opens up a lot more fingering possibilities. You can play across the fretboard rather than up and down the neck. Especially helpful if you have to sing.

I went from a 4 to a 6 and I never had a 5. I even defreted my 4 a week ago because I just stoped using it in it's previous state. I love my 6 strings bass

I have 4 and 5 stringers, but vaaaaastly prefer the 5 after switching this year. Way easiter to play stuff without having to change hand position a whole bunch

I bought a five string and tried very hard to love it for two months. Then I tried tuning my four string CGDA and it was love at first sight! So it will be four strings from now on ... I think....

I prefer a short scale 4 string.
I would like a short scale 6 string though, in the Bass VI incarnation. That means tuned E-E, like a guitar but 1 octave lower. Preferable a modded Ibanez Mikro.

I miss the B string on 4s now. Being able to go down that extra octave and not having to drop to D is so nice!
